Students learned about how lines and shapes work together to make patterns. We then used math to create a grid or radial pattern for the background. We talked about how to draw curved lines to make flat objects look round. Our goal was to create visual contrast and multiple patterns to create an optical illusion.
Lego figures
In 6th grade art last week, we learned all about the many different kinds of lines and how they are used in art. We then had to create a Lego figure using only lines to tell who the person is or what they do. We also learned about how color is used to help show what a person likes or wh
at they do as well. They finished by writing about their character too.
What I did on summer vacation
In the 2D art class, we started the year with a fun activity where each student had to tell and then show us their favorite event that happened over the summer. They begin with telling the story, continued by writing that story down, and finished with them by drawing and coloring them in fully. I think you can see students had a great time expressing themselves with this project, and it gave me a great sample of where they stand with their drawing abilities.
Syllabi for 6, 7 & 8th grade Art Classes
Hello, and welcome to the 2017- 18 school year. I am very excited to meet my new students and to get going making some great artwork that we’ll all be proud of. Attached is the syllabus for each of the classes I’m teaching this semester. All students will be getting a paper copy of these in class at the end of the first week. They will need to be signed by a parent and the bottom portioned returned for 10 points of credit (their first grade of the year). Please make sure students return them within 3 days to receive full credit. Also note that each day, students will need to have a notebook, and markers of their own for the first month of class. Other supplies such as glue and colored pencils will be needed later in the semester. Dearborn schools will provide the rest.

Perspective Drawing/ City Planning
Students were tasked with creating a somewhat realistic view of a city street. We spent a few days learning how to make our drawings more life like using one point perspective. After that, we thought about what businesses we’d like to have in a city if we were a city planner. Each student had the freedom to design their favorite places and create their own unique view of the world.
ASD dept. Cake Project
Today in class, we worked on making cakes out of paper. First we decided which kind of cake we liked best. From there we decided what colors make up some of our favorite flavors and we colored the paper accordingly. Next we folded and glued the tabs together and added a scoop of “ice cream” to our plates.
