October 6 and 7 Clinic and Concert with the National Arab Orchestra

Hello all –
A quick reminder about our concert and clinic this weekend.  This is going to be very different and very exciting for us!  We hope you plan to attend!  The clinic and concert are REQUIRED for all choir members.  Students have been aware of this concert from the first day of school.

The National Arab Orchestra presents one of the most exclusive concerts in the US this year. Join us for a celebratory evening of arts and culture with the NAO performing some of the most treasured pieces in the Arab music repertoire. The NAO will also be featuring over 100 students (and soloists!)  from Detroit School of Arts, Edsel Ford High School, and Fordson High School as part of its Building Bridges through Music program in a combined performance. In addition to the concert program, there will be a surprise performance by Lebanese artist, Mia Haddad. Be sure not to miss this one of a kind event. Tickets on sale now!!!

Please note the following call times:

  • October 6 – Call time: 11:45 at Fordson High School.  Students park in the EAST parking lot (off Shafer) We will have our Clinic from 12-1 and the final rehearsal from 1-2.  Students will be released at 2 pm (give or take a couple of minutes.)  
  • October 7 – Call time: 4:15 pm at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Students will meet a guide in the Atrium outside the Michael Guido Theatre/Padrewski Art Gallery.  We will have a sound check, then students will have pizza provided by the Orchestra (Veggie, Halal, cheese, and meat options will be available.) We will then change into concert attire and be seated as a group in the Michael Guido Theatre to enjoy the first half of the concert.  Proper concert etiquette is REQUIRED.  We perform on the second half of the concert. I do not know how long the concert will be, but students are required to attend the entire concert.  We most heartily hope you are attending with them and enjoy the experience with us. (Please do not ask to pick them up “early”.)

Open House

Hello Everyone!
I hope to see many of you this evening. If you are unable to attend, this is one of the places to stay updated about our programs and activities.

Our main location for information is the EFHS Performing Arts Facebook Page. It is a great location for the happenings of the ensembles in our Department.

Students will be utilizing the Band App for most communications. I will post more info and sign in information for that App as I have it, as well as a link to the google calendar we have set up for events and practices.

Looking Ahead

Stage must be completely cleared over the Winter Break.

Solos for Finals must be chosen and planned.  Examples and process will be presented on Monday and Tuesday Dec  18 and 19.

Performing Arts Lunch Potluck on Dec 22 during both lunches.

Wayne County Regional Enhancement Education Millage Proposal

 

School districts in Wayne County have placed a proposal on the November 8th ballot to provide added funding for our schools. It is the “Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal.”

If approved by the entire county, the 2 mil proposal will generate approximately $6.2 million from Dearborn but the District will receive $7.8 million in additional funding for our schools.  Money would go to local schools starting this year and the millage expires after six years.  Continue reading

Spring Musical Auditions

EFHS SPRING MUSICAL

Preliminary Auditions will be held Tuesday and Wednesday March 8 and 9, 2016.  IF we have a large response, I will open up an additional day.

 

Shows under consideration are:

She Loves Me

Hands on a Hardbody

Pirates of Penzance

and a yet-to-be-announced Disney project

The choice of show will be determined by the people who audition and commit to the production.

 

Please prepare a 1-2 minute comedic monologue and 16 bar (1 minute) cut of a Traditional Music Theatre, Rock or Disney song of your choice.

FREE Tickets to the Barber of Seville!
We have an opportunity to receive FREE tickets for the Comic Opera Guild of Ann Arbor performance of “The Barber of Seville” . It will be performed on March 5th at 8pm at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Please fill out the attached Google Doc and I will procure the tickets for us. Should be a great show!

 

Students can access the list via Google Classroom and parents can email me their tickets requests!
