Henry Ford College Summer Camp Opportunity

Families,

I have been made aware of a Summer Camp being hosted by Henry Ford related to Environmental Science. I am attaching a scholarship form, which will cover the $125 cost of the camp. Included is a description of what students can expect to do while participating in the camp this summer.

Also, a reminder that you will have be having a quiz in class tomorrow. The quiz will cover the following ideas:

Photosynthesis: Remember the Reactants (what you start with) and the Products (what is created).

Cellular Respiration: Remember the Reactants (what you start with) and the Products (what is created).

The chemical formulas for everything in both equations

The purpose of both the simulation and the ping pong ball activity were.

Science Fair Rubric and Board Layout

Hello everyone,

Sorry I am a bit late on this post, I tried to get it up yesterday but was having issues with the site for some reason.

I wanted to put the information for the science fair rubric and an example of what the board should look like. Most everyone should have the rubric already, because it was given to you in class yesterday, but it doesn’t hurt to have it up here as well!

Rubric Example Just a note, this rubric may have some small modifications made to it, but the ideas will remain the same!

Cellular Respiration

Hey Class,

Many of you were asking for more information regarding Cellular Respiration, so I wanted to try and give a bit more to you. It may be difficult to do it via the blog, but stick with me.

Cellular Respiration (CR) is what gives all living things the energy they need to function. CR happens in the Mitochondria of cells, in both plants and animals.

For CR to happen, it requires Glucose and Oxygen. Glucose is traditionally found in the foods that we eat, and is originally created inside plants during photosynthesis. Oxygen is obtained because….. we breathe.

Inside the Mitochondria, the glucose is broken down in order to get energy. After the glucose is broken down, the atoms are rearranged into Carbon Dioxide and Water. The energy kept in the cells is called ATP, and allows the organism to perform all of the functions that they need to perform.

In animals, we release the Carbon Dioxide every time we exhale, because it is not good for our health. The water is released through our sweat, evaporates through our skin, and lost when we….. let’s just say we get rid of it as waste.

This process is continuous and is a never ending cycle, allowing us to have the energy we need to do everything necessary to live and enjoy our lives!

Classroom Kahoot

Hey everyone,

Many of you requested a link to the Kahoot from Monday to practice for tomorrow’s test. I believe it requires access to the kahoot app on a phone, but I am not 100% certain. If you are aware of how you can access it using your computer, please leave a comment below!

Plant Leaf Foldable (Tuesday/Wednesday)

Here is the foldable we worked on in class Tuesday and Wednesday. You will put glue on the blank space of the “bottom” portion, and put the top of the leaf over it, lined up with the bottom. Add the arrows where you think they go (our reading from last week may be helpful).

This will be glue on to 32A

Homework for the Weekend/Assembly Permission Slip

Hey everyone,

There are still a few of you who have not turned in your assembly permission slips. Please remember this is a NO COST assembly, they are not even charging the school. Everyone should be attending and all it takes is a signature. I can accept the slips up until Monday’s advisory!

Permission Slip

There are two copies on that sheet, only one is required.

Many of you also did not finish the Silent Spring reading and annotations today. THIS IS DUE MONDAY and I will attach a copy to this post if you were absent/lost your copy.

Silent Spring

This is a double sided assignment.

Have a great weekend!

Kahoot to prepare for Friday’s Density Assessment

Hello everybody!

Due to the busy week that we have had, we never got a chance to play the Density Kahoot. I think I’ve found a way to allow you to play it without me needing to have the questions on the board.

You may need to create a Kahoot account for this to work. Please use your Dearborn schools email address and password.
