Hello everyone,
A couple of updates that I wanted to get out to you!
EVERYONE
Tomorrow, Friday, October 14, is a half day for all students. Dismissal is at 11:05.
I am excited to announce that Ms. Duquette and I have both been approved for a Pets in the Classroom Grant. This grant will provided with a 50% off Leopard Gecko, and a habitat for no cost!
STUDENTS
Your homework assignment is an illustrated dictionary for section 1.1 Vocabulary:
Matter
Volume
Meniscus
Mass
Weight
Inertia
Fold a sheet of paper into 6 equal parts. Each section should include the Vocab Word, a Scientific Sentence using that word, and a picture that illustrates the word.
ADVISORY
Please continue to bring in gently used shoes! We are currently in the lead (28), but other classes are quickly catching up!
We also are starting a canned food drive with Dearborn High School, let’s help those who are less fortunate and donate some cans.
Lastly, tomorrow is your last day to turn in 2 Eagle Etiquette slips, or $1, to participate in Donuts and Cider on Wednesday, October 19th.

Hey everyone,
Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile, there hasn’t been much homework and I wanted to wait until I had more of an update on our Gecko!
The original plan was for me to go purchase the Gecko today after school. I was doing research and came across a “Pets for the Classroom” Grant. I decided to apply for this grant as it will provide us with a tank and habitat starter kit, as well as 50% off our purchase of the Gecko. This should effectively save closer to $100+ dollars in start up costs. The grant takes about 2 weeks to process, and then we will hear from there. Thank you to those that have also contributed donations, they are still appreciated and will be used for the consistent necessities, such as food, for our Gecko.

Your homework assignment for today was to complete the “E: Everything You Know” portion of our THIEVES Preview for Section 1.1
By class tomorrow you should have T-H-I-E done, we will be working on V-V-E-S in class.
Re-takes
If you needed to do a retake on the Scientific Method Test, please remember to email me the day before.
I am available Wed/Thurs After school, and Friday Before AND after school.
I will need a signed note in place of a signed test, as the test was done online.
Advisory
We have officially began our shoe drive at Bryant. Please, donate any new or gently used shoes to the school for those with a greater need for them. Bring them to me if I am your advisory teacher, if not, take them to whoever is!

Students Homework
A reminder to students, you need to come up with a conclusion and 3 other observations from today’s experiment.
If you were absent today, you will need to see me for a make-up assignment because you missed the in-class experiment.
News About a New Addition to Our Classroom
Families, after discussing it with some of the more persuasive students, and running it by Mr. Denison, we have decided that we will be getting a classroom pet.
The pet we decided on for the classroom is a Leopard Gecko to avoid any potential allergies with “furrier” animals.
We are fortunate enough to have had one student, Karim, donate his old 10 gallon tank to our cause! In order to properly care for our new pet, we will be looking for donations to apply toward the necessities for our gecko. These donations will be applied toward the purchase of the gecko, food, logs/shaded areas, and general maintenance tools for its home. Of course, I want to stress that these are donations and by no means required. A straight money donation would work best to avoid 15 pounds of crickets yet nowhere for the gecko to live, with money I could purchase what is needed as it becomes needed. Naturally, if you would rather donate a physical item that is fine also, please email me before hand so I can let you know if it is something we will need.
Lastly, if you are interested in learning anything more about a leopard gecko, here is a nice article filled with important information!

During long breaks, a student may need to take our gecko home for the vacation, but we can worry more about that when the time comes!

Students,
I understand that a number of you were confused about how exactly to do today’s assignment. I wanted to take a moment to help clarify things for you.
First, your paper should be divided into 6 equal sized boxes. Each box should be labeled with one step of the Scientific Method, like this.
(Thank you Zahraa for your example).
After labeling each box, you need to write a sentence that tells what to do during that step of the method.
Example:
Ask a Question
“First you need to come up with a question that you want to answer.”
But wait, there’s more:
After writing your sentence, draw a picture of someone, or something, that illustrates that step of the Scientific Method.
Repeat this process for each of the 6 steps, then you’re done!

Hello students,
For those of you home sick today, first allow me to say I hope you feel better and you were missed in class!
If you would like to stay caught up on class work, allow me to help you.
Today we started discussing the Scientific Method, and put some vocabulary into our interactive notebooks.
The first thing you will need to do is print out a vocab sheet: Found here
These terms are not in the correct order, you will need to re-order them and glue them on page 4A in your ISN!
When you glue them, please do so all the way to the left and leave a line between each term.
The last thing you will need to do is read pages 152 and 153 in your text book.
If you do not have your book, check out the online version. To do this, scroll down the Blog on the right hand side for the “Text Book” link. You can find the username and password by hovering over the link with out clinking on it.
After read these pages, write 2 important ideas about each step in the space next to the step in your ISN.

September 20th Class and Home Work
Hello everyone,
Remember, today in class we discussed the differences between observations and inferences. We also talked about why we need both to come up with scientific conclusions.
If you were absent today, you will need to work on “The Boy in the Water”
- In your table of contents, next to 2B, write “the Boy in the Water”
- Work through, color, and glue This sheet on 2B in your interactive notebooks.
Homework
If you did not finish in class, your homework is to be done on page 3B of your Interactive Notebooks.
You need to write 2 paragraphs about the Peppermint Lab, information can be found HERE

Hey everyone,
I hope to see any parents at the Open House tonight! You will be following a shortened version of your child’s schedule, most student’s should have a copy of this.
Students
If you were absent today, you need to cut and glue these terms on to page 2A in your Interactive Notebooks. Make sure you add that to your table of contents and label it “Observation Vocabulary”
We also did a short lab in class where you needed to make observations about a peppermint. If you’d like to do this at home, the pages are here (front) and here (back).
Remember, we will be starting the Fall NWEA Test tomorrow, you do not need to bring your text book or your Interactive Notebooks to class!
