Instructions for Remind101
Students and Parents,
Today in class, students with phones in school started the process of signing up for my Remind101 class. If you are unfamiliar with this program, it allows me to send “texts” to entire classes to remind them of assignment due dates or upcoming tests. If your student had a phone and is age 13+, they should be all set for the sign up. If they had their phone but are under 13, they started the process but will require your help to finish (instructions are on their phone). If your child has a phone, but it was not at school, or if you would like to sign up yourself, I will include the process below.
IMPORTANT: Once the process is complete, the phone will receive a text message, from what looks like a real phone number, welcoming them to Seventh grade Science and informing them that will be the number that my messages will come through. Save this number as something useful to identify me and be cautious that messages form me only come through that number. This is not my personal number, but one generated by the program.
Setting up remind
Using a phone, create a text message to 81010 the text should be the following message: @baisci
From here, the program will text a series of questions.
First, the primary users name (whoever uses the phone).
Next, it will ask if you are a Student, Teacher, or Parent.
Lastly, it will ask for a birthday in YYY-MM-DD format. Once entering a birthdate, if the student is under 13, a parent will need to step in. If you are over 13, you should get a new text message saying that is the number you will receive messages form me through.
This is not a substitute for the blog, and I still recommend being consistent in checking, but it will allow for quicker reminders during odd hours where the blog is unlikely to be read.
Have a great weekend, and don’t forget the real reason we have Monday off!

Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser for the 8th Grade Trip
Hello families and Happy New Year,
As we move closer to the second half of the school year, we move closer to many of our end of the year celebrations. One of these celebrations is the 8th Grade trip, which this year will be to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky.
I understand that you, likely, do not have an 8th grade student, but please consider supporting them in this trip. The 8th grade trip is a wonderful Bryant tradition that your student will, ideally, be able to participate in next year.
To raise funds for the trip, there is a fundraiser at the Michigan Ave Buffalo Wild Wings on January 17th (Next Wednesday). A portion of your bill will go towards funding the trip, all it requires is the flyer below. You get some chicken (and of course those awesome fried pickles) and the 8th graders receive funds for their trip. It is a win-win!

In Regards to the Snow Day and the Test Retake
Students, let’s get this out of the way first. HAPPY SNOW DAY AND ENJOY YOUR DAY OFF!
Many of you have already emailed me in regards to the test retake for the Atom Test that was planned to take place tomorrow. Due to the cancellation of school, this make up will be rescheduled to FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL.
Now, here’s the catch. I have to meet my family Friday for an early Christmas celebration, so I will not be able to stay any later than 3:45 that day. This should be more than enough time for retakes, but make sure you are preparing for the test, do not come in without any extra studying!
At this point, everyone has access to review their original test, and you SHOULD now be able to see what the correct answers were for each question. The retake will have new questions, but the concepts will be the same.
Email me with any concerns!

For those that left early
Many of you were incredibly responsible and came to get your assignments before leaving today, nice work!
To those of you who came to get the work, ignore the foldable I gave you, we will work on that tomorrow.
You MUST still do the reading/talking to the text sheet that I gave you before leaving.
What’s that? you left school early but forgot to get your work? You’re excused. No, not really! the reading assignment will be linked below, this is due tomorrow!

Monday’s Assignment and Friday’s Test
ONLINE ATOMIC LAB
Today in class we worked on an online atom lab which had us simulate the construction of an atom and answering questions about them.
The Website used can be found HERE.
If you were absent, a copy of the worksheet can be found using THIS LINK > Online Atom Lab.
NOTE: One change needs to be made to the worksheet. There was an issue with some of the boxes, and the arrows are not line up. This is for question 12.
The changes are the red arrows.
We will also be having a test on Friday about Atoms.
The test will cover the following:
Atomic Theory
Parts of an Atom (Protons, Neutrons, Electrons)
Pages 18B (mini book), 19B (Parts of an Atom), and 20A (Illustrated Dictionary) will be excellent resources to study.

Illustrated Dictionary (12/1)
Hey all, Happy December!
Today we did an illustrated dictionary for our new vocabulary terms. This will be glued on page 20A of your notebooks.
Notice there are only 4 “Tabs” for this foldable, the last one will have two words on it.
Your terms are (top to bottom): Protons, Electrons, Neutrons, Atomic Mass and Atomic Number (both on the same tab).
Inside the foldable, you will draw a picture on the left tab, and write a definition IN YOUR OWN WORDS on the right. (see below)
ALSO FOR HOMEWORK
You need to finish your Chem4Kids Element Research from Monday (blog post two below gives the links for that assignment).
Have a great weekend!
