Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year
Hello everyone,
We are now 2 days done for the new school year!
Students, it has been a great pleasure getting to know you so far and I have high hopes for what this school year is going to bring our way!
Parents, While many of us have not yet met, I look forward to communicating with you in the future. Our first chance to do so officially will be Wednesday, September 13th for the Bryant Open House. You will be given the chance to meet your child’s teachers, and get a firsthand look into what will be going on in their classes throughout the school year.
I hope a copy of my syllabus has found its way into your home at this point, but if not, you can find an electronic version
Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns you may have!

Earth Science Jeopardy
Some students have asked for a copy of the Jeopardy game we used to review in class today. I would be happy to oblige that request.
Study hard ladies and gentlemen, tomorrow is your last grade in 7th grade Science.

Homework for Friday and Post-Test Review
Hey everyone,
Now that we are pretty much at the end of the school year, there is one big thing still to take care of. The Earth Science Post Test on Wednesday. To help your review for this post test, I have opened up both of the Earth Science tests you have previously taken. You will not be able to answer the questions again, however you can review what you did answer, as well as what the correct answer was. This should not be your only resource for studying! Use your text book and ISN as well! Due to this test’s location at the end of the year, I will be unable to offer retakes on low scores, so be sure to study!
Work for Friday June 9th
If you were absent today, or simply lost your paper, we worked on a worksheet about fronts.
On this sheet, you will need to use your textbook or computer to fill in each of the boxes:
- How is the front formed
- What type of weather does it bring
- What is the weather like after
- Draw the symbol used for this front on a weather map
On the back side of this sheet, make 4 boxes and draw a picture of each front using page 48 of your textbook as a resource!

Air Masses and Fronts Online Activity
Today we will be working on a reading activity using different websites to find information.
This Link Will take you to the worksheet we are using. If you click on each section (Example: Section 1: air Masses – The Basics) it will take you to the page you need to use to answer those questions. Please write the actual answers on the hard copy of the sheet.

Wind Test Retake
The Test retake for Global and Local winds will be held Thursday after school. Everyone is eligible for the retake. You must bring a signed note from your parent with your original score to me after school Thursday to be retake. No exceptions.
On a lighter note, you guys did it! The end of 7th grade is in sight, excellent work this year everyone!

Section 1.3 THIEVVES
Hey everyone,
As you know (or don’t if you were absent) we started a new section today about Global Winds.
As usual, a new section must be previewed in some way, this time it is a written THIEVES in your interactive notebooks.
Here is a screen shot of what I want you to include. Remember, you can use two pages of your interactive notebooks.
REMINDER- On Thursday we will be doing a Lab that involves empty water/soda bottles. I do not require a ton, but I will take a couple if you have them!
If you were absent yesterday, we did an experiment where we discovered the density differences of the same substances at different temperatures.
This YouTube video does a decent job of summarizing what we found out.

Atmosphere and Heating Retake
Students, I just wanted to make a quick post to remind you the Test retake will be tomorrow after school. You need a signed note form a parent with your original score to be able to retake the test!

Layers of the Atmosphere Foldable
Hey everyone,
If you were absent either Thursday (5/11) or Friday (5/12) we worked on a foldable for the layers of the atmosphere. You will need a sheet of construction paper to do this assignment, it asks for light blue, but really the color does not matter.
You are going to glue this on the page of your interactive notebook AFTER the guided reading form earlier in the week (this will vary from class to class).
To answer the questions, use the next page of your interactive notebook to do so.

Assessment’s for this week
Just to remind everyone, tomorrow is your Genetics Test. To prepare for this test you may want to look over your Genetics with a Smile worksheets, reread about Gregor Mendel (it’s been a couple weeks), and also go over your Illustrated Dictionaries for vocabulary.
ON FRIDAY
You will have your Life Science Post-test. This is a cumulative test that covers the main ideas of all our Life Science Sections (about 3 months worth of information). While the purpose of this test is to mainly see what information you have retained over the entire Life Science Unit, I do not expect you to simply take the test and be fine. In order to help you prepare, I have opened up access to all of our previous Life Science tests to let you go through and review. Remember, you have seen this test before, you took it prior to starting ANY Life Science sections when it was called a pre-test (most of you didn’t score well, as expected). The Primary purpose of this test is to show growth, and as a result, your score will be curved accordingly.
Don’t panic, but also don’t wait to review. For now, focus on genetics. When you feel comfortable with your knowledge on that, then go back and review other concepts for Friday.

Genetics With a Smile
Today we started a 3 day activity know as Genetics with a smile. We created smiley faces based on a coin flip to determine their traits (like in real life, the traits you get from your parents are a 50/50 chance).
Genetics With a Smile This is the sheet where you will be flipping a coin.
Genetics With a Smile Phenotypes This sheet helps you figure out the phenotype of your genes, or the actual characteristics that show up. Remember, if you have either 2 dominant OR 1 dominant and one recessive gene, the phenotype will be the dominant form. When you have 2 recessive genes that is the ONLY time your phenotype will be recessive.
Once you figure out the phenotype of the smiley face, you will need to draw a face that has all of the correct characteristics.
