Standard Form Quiz tomorrow!

Posted by Christopher Moylan on December 4, 2018 in Blogs |

Our quiz on the standard form of linear equations is tomorrow, 12/05!

We spent most of the hour today (12/04) working with classmates or Moylan on our review.

If we need to check our work, we can use the Standard Form Quiz Review – Key!

Monday, October 29:

We took our Unit 1 test today, recapping everything that we know and love about functions.

Tuesday, October 30:

We started our new unit on Linear Essentials today, talking about the wonders of Slope Dude and different types of slope.

Wednesday, October 31:

Today was our chance to keep practicing slope, but this type it was disguised as “rate of change” in different tables.

Thursday, November 1:

Monday, October 15:

Parent Teacher Conferences tonight! See you and your parents there!

We continued our work with Domain and Range today, but switched over from the Discrete functions we’d been working with to those sleek new Continuous functions. That switch also meant that we had to start working with Interval Notation and debating the merits of brackets versus parentheses.

Tuesday, October 16:

Today we had a chance to practice our skills with the interval notation we’d learned yesterday, as well as an opportunity to continue sharpening those domain and range skills.

Moylan also introduced our chance to retake the Unit 0 test today! All the information we need is right there in the Unit 0 Retake Review Guide. Remember, that guide has to be 100% complete to retake the test Next Tuesday, 10/23 after school at 2:20 in room 201.

Wednesday, October 17:

Late Start Today, plan accordingly! Parent Teacher Conferences tonight, can’t wait to see everyone who couldn’t make it on Monday!

Week of October 8:

Posted by Christopher Moylan on October 9, 2018 in Blogs |

Monday, October 8:

Today we went over the homework from Friday, distinguishing between relations which are/are not functions. Moylan also passed back the quiz and test that we took last week so that we can work on keeping track of our progress toward mastery on each of our standards. Moylan also explained what our gradebooks look like in preparation for our report cards and Parent Teacher Conferences next week.

We also got to take out our phones and look on Student Connect to see if we needed to turn in any missing/incomplete assignments.

Tuesday, October 9:

Today we spent a bit more time talking about the difference between relations which are functions, and which are not. This time, we had to make a set of relations and answer a number of questions about our creations. We then came back together as a class and talked through the questions together.

Wednesday, October 10:

Moylan was not in class today, so Mrs. Rosbury came in and helped the class get through most of the notes about Domain and Range.

However, the class didn’t get through everything because they were having a lot of trouble staying focused and were getting distracted by an awful lot of side conversations.

Thursday, October 11:

When Moylan returned today, we had a long discussion about respect and what expectations are when we have guests/substitutes in our classroom.

Afterward, we went over the notes from yesterday and added the booklet to our interactive notebooks before getting a practice sheet covering Domain and Range of Discrete Functions.

Friday, October 12:

We didn’t meet today because of our half-day, meaning that we only met with hours 1-3 today.

Week of October 1:

Posted by Christopher Moylan on October 2, 2018 in Blogs |

Monday, October 1:

Today, we went over the back side of the worksheet we’d passed out last Thursday. We went over the last 6 questions together as a class, making sure that we all understand exactly how to set up and solve those perimeter word problems.

If you didn’t get it 100% done, make sure that you finish it up and show it to Moylan so that you get credit for completing your practice!

Tuesday, October 2:

We spent today going over our review for tomorrow’s Unit Test! Moylan hunkered down at the front of the class, and went over 1 example from each standard with anyone who needed that support. Everyone else got to work with other classmates and check their answers on the board.

Wednesday, October 3:

Unit Test Today!

Make sure that you’re studied and have all your practices turned in!

Thursday, October 4:

We introduced our new unit today: Functions and Relations!

So we added 2 new pages to our interactive notebook, talking about the different representations of relations: ordered pairs, graph, table, and mapping diagrams.

We also got a practice sheet to demonstrate our mastery of relations, so make sure that you’re trying that at home.

Friday, October 5:

Today we started talking about functions and what it means to be a function. This meant a couple more pages added to our interactive notebooks!

Pep Assembly today! We’ve got a shorter schedule so that we can be properly pepped!

Week of September 24:

Posted by Christopher Moylan on September 25, 2018 in Blogs |

Monday, September 24:

Today was all about our rational/irrational numbers. We went over the worksheet we’d started on Friday and finished over the weekend, discussing some of our different answers.

After that, we got to work on another practice for rational v. irrational numbers while Moylan passed back our quizzes from last Wednesday and explained some of the scores.

Any student who got a 0-2 on a standard is expected to do the Evaluating and Order Extra Practice to help prepare for our upcoming test!

Tuesday, September 25:

Today we added the next section to our Interactive notebook: Consecutive Integers!

We talked about the two formulas we’ll need to solve these problems, and then did a bit of practice to really drive the skills home.

Wednesday, September 26:

We added our last new page to our interactive notebooks for this unit: Perimeter!

We defined what perimeter is, and then we figured out how to write equations for it from different word problems.

Thursday, September 27:

Today is our chance to practice our skills a bit more with those consecutive integers and perimeter problems that we were introduced to earlier this week.

Friday, September 28:

Since we’ve been having so much trouble remembering what a classroom community is supposed to look/sound like, we held a restorative circle.

For those of you who are not familiar with these, a restorative circle is when we all sit together in a circle and take turns responding to prompts/questions to get us working together. The goal is to repair our relationships without blaming anyone or getting angry with one another, so that we enjoy coming to class each day and look forward to working with our classmates.

Week of September 17:

Posted by Christopher Moylan on September 19, 2018 in Blogs |

Monday, September 17:

We practiced correcting student work today, and determining what grade each student should receive in our Standards Based Grading classroom (0-4) based on their work. Students also had to defend the grade they gave each student, just like they were a teacher talking with a concerned parent.

Tuesday, September 18:

Today was our chance to practice and review for our quiz tomorrow. We had the answers up on the board so that we could check our work, but also knew that we’d have to be able to show all of our steps if we wanted full credit.

Order of Operations Review

Evaluating Expressions Review

Wednesday, September 19:

Quiz today on 2 standards: Order of Operations and Evaluating algebraic expressions!

After bell work, we asked any burning, last minute questions we may have had about the review we did in class (or finished for homework) yesterday. Then we jumped into that quiz and made sure to show all of our steps and double check our answers!

Once we were done absolutely crushing those two standards, we were given a two sided worksheet to get us prepped and ready to go for the material we’d be getting into tomorrow.

Thursday, September 20:

Today marked the start of our next topic for class: rational versus irrational numbers.

We added a couple new pieces to our interactive notebooks and then worked our way through a classification activity.

Wednesday, September 12:

Thursday, September 13:

We tried out some bell work today, and after exploring those multi-step equations, we started an activity with a small group in class to practice evaluating algebraic expressions.

Friday, September 14:

1/2 Day Today! Plan Accordingly!

We spent most of our very short class working with our group from yesterday to continue evaluating expressions. We turned in our work for Mr. Moylan to check over at the end of the class, regardless of whether or not we were completely done.
