Weekly News…

Happy Friday Families!

This was a busy week, with our first field trip, 2nd grade math test, PBIS movie afternoon and 1/2 day. I finished my assessing and we are now in full swing of Cafe Daily 5. Students are getting good fit books sent home. Please make sure they return daily. They must read 20 every night and this includes their book from school. Starting in October they will have Think and Compare comprehension questions to answer in complete sentences. I normally give 3 days to complete.

In social studies we are learning about communities, and geography of Michigan.

The students are learning about the writing process and we start with Plan, Organize, Draft, Revise, Edit, Publish. We are continuing writing narratives. Last week we wrote about a vacation in Michigan and plotted it on a map. This week we wrote about a special time we had in Dearborn. Next week in writing we will begin our October “Boo Boo” stories.

2nd graders – Math test Module 1 is coming home. Sign it and return it Monday. Our next Module is focusing on measurement. Please refer to the Math page on the blog for lesson reviews.

Finally, we said “farewell” to Mrs. Lee, our teacher assistant today. She retired from Dearborn after 32 years of teaching in Dearborn.

Have a great weekend!

Parents of both 2nd and 3rd grade…

After meeting with the Lieutenant of the Dearborn Fire Department, she is requesting that the 2nd graders (from our class only) attend the Fire House tomorrow afternoon with the 3rd graders.

Chaperones are not needed and a school bus will be transporting us.

This is very exciting! So please look for the permission slip coming home tonight. I need them back tomorrow.

Thank you!

Hi Families,

Due to all of the NWEA and DRA testing, we did not take our spelling test this week. Therefore, all students will earn 100% on this test. Luckily we did use the lists all week long to launch Word Work for Cafe Daily 5, so they had a great grasp on the concept.

We launched Listen to reading, Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work and I am over halfway done testing the students to get them into their reading level. 2nd graders are done with NWEA and the 3rd Graders are almost finished.

Reading books came home yesterday and they are practicing taking them home and bringing them back. Over the weekend, reread their story and discuss the think and compare questions, found at the end of the book. Next week we will get into official reading groups.

Math has been going really well, keep up the great work. 2nd grade completed lesson 4 today and we will do the homework as bellwork on Monday.

Students need earbuds or headphones.

Thank you for a great week!

Dates: Thursday is Open House. I look forward to meeting all of you!

Thank you for a great first week. There will be no school tomorrow and Monday. Some students did not finish their writer’s workshop class work. Please finish it and return it on Tuesday.

Next week we will official begin the behavior chart. Look for their color at the end of the day in their planners, sign planners nightly and be sure they are reading at least 20 min per night. We are in the process of assessing their reading levels and leveled books will be coming home next week.

Math~ My 9 third graders are going to Mrs. Alabakoff’s classroom for 3rd grade math instruction. They are joining her 3rd grade students. This will take place every day for 90 min. I am keeping my 2nd graders and gaining 6 of Mrs. Burke’s 2nd graders at that time for 2nd grade math instruction. Mr. Attee should be sending a note home Tuesday for more information. I will be adding Eureka You Tube tutorials on my blog under the page “2nd grade Math” and I have already created a 3rd grade page. If you have any questions please email me and we can discuses them.

Social Studies~ we will begin social studies in both classes next week. 3rd grade will be studying Map skills and 2nd grade will be studying communities.

Have a great weekend with your families and I will see you all on Tuesday!

Great First Day!

What a wonderful first day, I even got an apple! Thank you for sending in your children with such a great and positive attitude. We went over the classroom rules, read about voice levels, played outside at recess, did a “get to know me” skittles ice breaker, discussed homework folders and took some pictures. Tomorrow we will be sorting into “House” groups, completing a STEAM activity, begin Cafe Daily 5 strategies and continue to practice procedures.

I’ll keep you “posted”
