Starting Tomorrow

4th Grade Families,

We will be starting a new behavior reward system.  Each student will get a monthly card with a word.  Whenever I have to talk to a student about bad choices I will ask for his/her card.  If the behavior changes then I will return the card, if the behavior continues then I will cross a letter off the card.  At the end of the month we will have a reward for students who still have letters on his/her card.  Students who have lost all the letters will not participate in the reward.  This month the word is READ.  There are also boxes on the card for good behavior.  If I catch someone doing something above and beyond then I may make note of it on his/her card.  Cards will be sent home at the end of the month for parents to initial and send back to school.

Math Assessment

Great Job parents! The average for this assessment was 89.3%! I’m asking that you sign and return the test Monday after the break.

Homework will be Reading log. Due Monday after break.

We will be finishing our Social St. “Federal Government” Unit and have our DCA on March 10th.

Hope you enjoy this week of vacation with your families and the kids return healthy and refreshed:)

Finally, Mrs. Courtright is going to have small group tutoring of 3-4 students after school starting in mid-March. She charges $10-12 per student for an hour depending on how many kids are in the group.  She currently has 1 student and is looking to see if there is anyone from our class interested.  The days would be Wednesdays and possibly Fridays or every other Friday after school.  If you are interested, please send an email to her:  courtrl@dearbornschools.org

Valentine’s Party

AWESOME party! We had so much fun drinking our floats and playing “logic” games. Thank you to Ms. Franks, Ms. Shaw, Ms. Buck, Ms. Hicks and all the awesome families that sent in supplies for our drinks. Finally, thank you for spoiling me yesterday. I love your children so very much and the amount of chocolates, cards and candy I received was humbling. Cupid Floats Valentine Drink - how fun & perfect for the kids! kellyelko.com

Hi families! Our Party will be on Tuesday in the afternoon from 2:00 – 3:15.  If you would like to visit us that would be great, I could use help with the floats. Also, we will be decorating a shoe box so if you could send in a shoe box with your child, along with decorations that would be awesome.

We have 24 students if you want to purchase cards

Social Studies Notes/Review

Please visit congressforkids.net with your child. It is filled with great info.

We will be having a district assessment on March 10th. Some of the information is found on the Social Studies page. Please click on the link and open the download. I would suggest starting to study sooner than later.

Thanks!

Multiplication tests

We will begin multiplication tests weekly. they will be timed and no longer then 5 min.

Suggestions – flash cards, and practice as much as possible

Today we practiced a multiplication strategy called “partial products” Below is an example…

37 x 6=

1 way:                                   another way:                            third way:                                                      “decompose 6”                       (round first

                                                                                               then adjust)

30* 6 = 180                       37 x 3 + 37 x 3 =                    40 x 6 = 240

7 * 6 = 42                                  111 + 111                                 3×6 = 18

180+42 = 222                               = 222                                  = 222

The kids are great at decomposing numbers and breaking them into more “friendly numbers” to help them with mental math. However, they are making mistakes in multiplication facts.

Thank you! I home this helps:) The “cheat sheet” helps me!
