March 29

Week 3 of Remote Learning:)

Happy sunny Sunday to all. I hope this finds you healthy and well. I know in these uncertain times we are flooded with questions and concern. Remember to take one day at a time, that is all we can all do. I am here for you if you need help, please don’t hesitate to contact me. As most of you know I respond within an hour to your questions, if not sooner. And, I have been responding at all hours of the day and night so I am here for you.

Also, I am getting different feedback from parents. Some think the work is overwhelming and others want more. To address this, please do what you can with your child. We need to keep them reading, responding to reading, writing and continue math practices. I will post assignments for the week. IF you would like more, again, go back to March 13th’s post where there are links to many online resources and activities.

Thank you for the pictures, keep them coming! Great job on our zoom meeting, we had 1/2 our class participate. We will have another one next week with a focus on “Show and tell.”

Assignments for the Week

Reading: Finish the Readworks assignments. They are all due by Friday. Then, Read 20 minutes per day. This week I want you to respond to you reading. Answer the 3 questions in a google doc and return it to me. 1.Who are the characters in the story? 2. Whereis the setting of the story? What is the main idea of your story?

Spelling: Practice cursive! CHoose 10 words you are interested in, and practice them in cursive.

Writing/Social Studies: Turn in your “Famous Person” informational assignment (see google classroom for assignment and a graphic organizer to help). Most of you have turned this in! Way to go Penguins! If you have turned this in, I want you to write a letter tor email to someone you miss. It could be a family member, friend, teacher, coach. Send it to them. It could be through email, mail it, take a picture of your letter and send it in a text to that person. Tell them about your day, what you are doing, (we painted a picture and wrote a letter to my Dad and put it in the mail Friday so he gets it. We miss my Dad and know that he will love it).

Math: Continue doing ZEARN for 20 min. a day. 2nd graders: practice subtraction with borrowing. 3rd graders: practice multiplication facts. Solve the word problems and have fun making up your own. HAve a family member solve your problem.

2nd grade word problem: IF Juliette baked 2 dozen cookies and Felicia ate 9, how many are left for their dad?

3rd grade problem: Felicia baked 2 batches of 12 cookies. If she shared 7 with her sister, how many were left for their dad?

Science: mysteryscience.com You will have to set up your own account. Have fun with the videos and activities. Again, for more, go to the post from the 13th and click on the third grade link. there are many ideas under my science category.

Finally, I have created a page that is Special Areas. It has art, gym, music, speech teacher’s links. Visit them for some fun!)
