Homework
Parents, please continue to check your child’s planners. Many of my students are “forgetting” to do their homework or are “too busy”. Unfortunately homework is the nature of the beast for 2nd graders. They had a writing assignment that was originally a classroom assignment. But, the kiddos didn’t know how to get home. So, because this is a part of social studies for both 2nd and 3rd grade geography, I told the students to complete it with an adult over the weekend. The directions were to tell us how you get home from school. Please have them use direction words from social studies: turn left, turn right, go north, south, east, west etc.
This week is spirit week:
Tomorrow is Holiday Socks Day.
In math we will begin subtraction, in reading we are continuing with focusing on comprehension. In writing we are producing opinion papers on naughty vs. nice and supporting your opinions. We are creating candy cane poems and studying weather in science ( In this Mystery, students explore the effects of natural hazards, such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and dust storms. We will construct a model of a house that will withstand a tornado). Finally, in social studies we are discussing the French Fur trade and their relationship with the Native American’s in Michigan).
Thank you for all you do! I know it is a hectic time of year, the students are CRAZY excited for the holidays and I will do my best to keep things as easy as possible this week for you.
