PTA News

I know many of you are on the PTA blog, but those of you who are not I wanting to share this with you.

Good morning! We hope this email finds you and your family healthy and safe.  It’s hard to believe that we are almost to May!  Hopefully that means we are headed towards better weather and lots of opportunities to get outside.  May also means we are coming up on Teacher Appreciation Week!  Now more than ever, we would like to thank our teachers and recognize them for all the passion and hard work they have put into this school year and remote learning.  We wanted to share with you our PTA’s plans for Teacher Appreciation Week and also ask for your help with an easy task or two to show your appreciation to our awesome teachers! We know one thing our teachers would really love is to see photos of their students.  We would like to invite each student to make a poster or sign to express thank you to our teachers and staff and take a photo with their sign.  We will be compiling all the photos in a slideshow set to music that can be shared with all our teachers and students.  In order to get the slideshow put together, we will need your photo(s) submitted by this Friday, May 1.  Please don’t miss the deadline- we don’t want to leave anyone out!  Instructions:

  • The sign can be for their individual teacher, all teachers in general, or whoever they would like to recognize.  Don’t forget art, music, gym, support staff, Mr. Attee, etc.- it would be great to recognize everyone and make them feel appreciated.  You can take individual photos or sibling group photos- be as creative as you want.
  • There are two ways you can share the picture(s) to have them published in the video.  The easiest is to upload your photo directly to Robbin Makled’s Amazon share site using this link:

https://www.amazon.com/photos/groups/share/qAIvyo7FRRiAj3-RFytBZA.0vsQG4jKWeyr3E3QNLNz0J If you are unable to upload via the link, you can email the photo to Robbin.Tenglin@gmail.com

  • Please be sure your photos are received by this Friday, May 1 so that we can make a great video, include everyone, and make sure our teachers know how much we appreciate them!

Other Teacher Appreciation Week Activities:Our PTA is also working hard on other activities and initiatives to recognize our teachers virtually:

  • Monday, May 4- Our teachers will be receiving a restaurant e-gift card via email.
  • Tuesday, May 5- Dress up as your favorite teacher and share them to the DuVall PTA facebook page.  Be as silly and creative as you like!
  • Wednesday, May 6- Supplies for teachers!  We will be providing teachers with some of their favorite school supplies!
  • Thursday, May 7- A surprise giftcard by email for our hardworking teachers!
  • Friday, May 8- Our appreciation video for teachers will be sent out to our whole school to enjoy!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at breannagross7@gmail.com. Kind regards, Breanna GrossDuVall PTA

DuVall Chromebook Distribution planned for Monday, April 27th

Please fill out this form if you would like to reserve a Chromebook on loan for your child. To take the DuVall Chromebook survey, please click here. Please complete this survey by 5:00 PM on Friday, April 24th as this will provide our staff with enough time to prepare the necessary number of Chromebooks based on the anticipated number of requests. The survey above must be filled out in order to make a reservation for a Chromebook on loan – we will not be able to distribute additional on-the spot requests as it takes time to prepare each of the Chromebooks.

Chromebooks must be returned to the school on the first day Dearborn Public Schools reopen after this mandatory shutdown. Students must follow Dearborn Public Schools Acceptable Use policy and guidelines. The family borrowing the Chromebook agrees to understand that they are responsible for any damage to the Chromebook. The Chromebooks on loan are for current DuVall students only.  :

Parents will drive up to the bus lane on Francis Street near the preschool door (door 4) on Monday, April 27th.  Parent/ Guardians must have a Driver’s ID.  A DuVall staff member will bring the parent our Chromebook Loan agreement to the car along with the Chromebook, have the parent sign it, and then collect the signed agreements as a record of our Chromebooks that have been distributed.  Please follow the schedule of distribution for classes below so that we can have an orderly distribution of the Chromebooks on loan – there is a limit of one Chromebook on loan per family.

9:15 – 9:30 Mrs. Ross

11:45 – 12:00 Last call if you missed your time spot (must have completed the survey)

Thank you for following the above guidelines and schedule for distribution to make this process possible as well as for the DuVall staff who will be assisting during processing and distribution days.

New Updates in Remote Learning

And so it begins… actually, it will look a lot like what we’ve been doing.

The district has a plan for the rest of the year. It was approved and will begin today, Monday, April 20th. You need to be on ALL the Google Classrooms and check them everyday, Monday-Friday, for your assignments.

Here are the BIG changes:

  1. I will be grading your work for your final report card. The grading scale for the last report card will be different. Instead of 1,2,3, or 4 you will receive an M (meeting), P (progressing), or LP (limited participation). See the new page (tab) I added at the top District Plan 2020 to explain the grading more thoroughly.
  2. I have “office hours” now. These are the times when I am available to answer any replies or emails. My hours are Monday through Friday 11am- 2pm. Of course, for those who know me you know I will answer at other times if I have a chance.
  3. We will have Google Hangouts weekly – I will send emails with times. I may spread out the class since 24-30 students on one meeting may be overwhelming (at least for me it would be).

If you have questions about assignments you may send my a reply on the assignment post or email me. I am made a new page (tab) at the top of my blog that has the description of the district plan for the remaining of the school year.

Google Classroom Codes

You will need to login to your google account (or CLEVER), using your school number and password – just like on the Chromebooks in class. You need to go to Google Classroom – click on the + sign in the corner to add a class.

I will be contacting any students who have not been participating or who have not been doing most/all of the assignments. So again, please stay caught up as best you can. If you or a family member becomes sick please email me so I will be able to modify the workload as necessary.

We are all in this together, stay safe and PENGUIN STRONG!!

Week of April 13th

This week I will post all assignments on Google Classroom so please check there each day in Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. I will alternate science and social studies so you will not have both everyday. I am putting the codes for each class below for those of you who have not yet added each class into your Google Classroom.

In addition to the daily assignments I have sent an email with the invitation to access EPIC at home for free. Have your parents check their email. If you did not get the email let me know and I can send it to a different email address.

Each day you need to read at least 20 minutes (EPIC counts if you’d like), you also need to practice for 20 minutes on either ZEARN, Khan Academy or Freckle. I will be checking all the websites daily for the report for what you practiced.

Google Classroom: You will need to login to your google account (or CLEVER), using your school number and password – just like on the Chromebooks in class. You need to go to Google Classroom – click on the + sign in the corner to add a class.

I want to have a ZOOM meeting with any classmates that would like to join me on Monday afternoon at 2:00. I will send the link to the listed parent’s email on your emergency card. If you don’t receive it by Monday morning please email me and I will send you the link. Can’t wait to see everyone! I miss you all so much! Take care, stay home and stay safe.
