Field Day

FIELD DAY, May 14th, VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Dear Parents and Guardians,

To help us celebrate another fantastic school year, we will be having Field Day on Monday, May 14, 2018.  For this Field Day event students will work through stations with their class to develop skills they have learned in physical education and have tons of fun!  The schedule for the event is as follows:

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grades

1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades

On May 14, students need to wear clothes that will allow them to be physically active outside, including tennis shoes.  They need to bring a water bottle. Students are highly encouraged to bring a water bottle that can be refilled at the refill station that we will provide.

We are looking for one parent from each classroom to donate a treat for the entire class to enjoy after their session.  We are also pre-selling Fla-vor-ice as a cool treat for students to enjoy during the activities. The cost for the Fla-vor-ice is $0.50, only one Fla-vor-ice per student please. Fla-vor-ice money is due by Monday, May 7.

Lastly, we need 15 parent volunteers for both sessions to help run stations.  If you are interested in volunteering, fill out the lower portion and return it to Mr. Peecher.  Please, contact Mr. Peecher with any questions.

Thanks!  The PBIS/Field Day Committee  peeches@dearbornschools.org

You’re Invited!

Please come and join the first graders as we celebrate the ending of our Economics unit with Market Day! Market Day is all about determining wants and needs, producing goods and services and trading. Family and friends are invited to help celebrate the world of producers and consumers by shopping at our market from 9am-11am on Tuesday, April 24th. All goods will range from .10 cents to $1.00. All Haigh students will have the opportunity to shop at our market, so if your child would like to purchase something, please send them to school with money. Hope to see you Tuesday!

Change Challenge!

It’s time for the Penny/Nickel challenge!

This week, we are continuing our endangered animal adoption project. We are reusing milk jugs to collect money for adopting a wolf through the Detroit Zoo, and we need your help!

We are asking for your help with our penny/nickel challenge.

Bring in as many extra pennies or nickels as you can to help fill our jugs! At the end of the week, we’ll count up the totals and announce our winners!

Did you know???

A single wolf can eat up to 20 pounds of food in one sitting!

Cardboard Arcade

Good Afternoon Parents,

The 4th and 5th grade classes are participating in a cardboard challenge in honor of Earth Day. Students are creating a game that is primarily made out of a cardboard box (other materials can be used as well, but the main material should be cardboard). If you have not had the chance to watch the video, Caine’s Arcade, please do so. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faIFNkdq96U The focus is to use recycled materials in honor of Earth Day, please don’t run out and buy items.

Students should work on this project primarily at home. We will only have one day in class before the presentation date to finish up. Students can work alone or in groups. For fifth grade, this is not a graded project but we are encouraging all students to participate!

Your child will have a chance to share their game with the lower grades at the end of April (exact date TBD).  Students from grades k-3 will have the chance to play the games while your child runs them. Should be a fun activity for all to enjoy!

February PBIS

Dear Families,

Our February PBIS celebration is almost here and the kids are so excited to make a competition out of this month’s activity with a CASTLE CUP CHALLENGE! Each grade level will be divided up into small groups and will have the opportunity to work with their classmates to design and create the best structure they can imagine.

In order to make this celebration possible, we are asking for donations of        16 ounce plastic cups (typical red Solo cups). The more cups we have, the more the kids will get to use in their creation.

If you are able to donate, please send the cups in with your student no later than Monday, February 26th.

Thank you so much for your continued support – it truly is appreciated!
