Clean Up Parade
Haigh Elementary School
2018-2019
Haigh Community:
We are excited to announce that Haigh is participating in the “Clean Up Parade” this Monday at 1:30pm! It has been 2 years since our school has had the parade. The purpose of the parade is to instill in our students the importance of keeping our community clean and to promote a healthy environment. On the bottom of this letter you will find the “parade map”. We would love for our community to come and stand along the route to cheer on our students as they make the walk around our neighborhood. Students will be working on signs, hats  or posters this week to carry or wear during the parade. We are asking that all students wear “green” or “their grade level shirts” on this date to show unity and celebrate being a “Green School”.  Please do not feel obligated to buy a new shirt for this event, any form of green will do. At the end of the parade,  the Mayor, myself and 2 of our students will be giving short speeches about the importance of keeping our community clean. If possible we would love to see you here to help celebrate the Clean Up Parade with our students.

Camp Reminder
Students and Parents,
Camp is next week! We are so excited you are coming on this awesome learning experience. Please remember to label EVERYTHING with student names and pack appropriately for the weather. This is also a friendly reminder that no electronics are allowed. Wear your grey camp shirt Wednesday!
Drop off and pick up times:
Wednesday, May 1: Meet in the gym at 8:45am
Friday, May 3: Pick up students at Haigh main entrance at 12:00

Camp Meeting TOMORROW
Tomorrow, January 16, at 6pm is the informational camp meeting. PLEASE try and come!
Dear Fifth Grade Parents/Guardians,
Your student has been invited to attend a fifth grade camping experience.  This year we have reserved space at the YMCA Storer Camps in Jackson, Michigan.  This year’s trip will take place May 1-3, 2019 (Wednesday-Friday).
We will have an informational meeting for parents on Wednesday, January 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center to discuss the details of our camping trip.  It is VERY IMPORTANT that you attend this meeting if your son or daughter will be going to camp.  The cost of the camping trip will be approximately $150.00 per student/chaperone, depending upon how many students are actually going.  This includes a two night stay, all meals, and transportation.  Fifth grade students and chaperones that choose to participate in the trip will need to commit and pay a deposit of $75 no later than Monday, January 28, 2019.  You may pay the deposit in cash or by check.  If you are writing a check, please make it payable to Haigh Elementary School and write “fifth grade camp” in the memo area.  Please place the cash or check in an envelope with your child’s first and last name and homeroom teacher on the front. The remaining balance will be due in early March.  If there is a change in the cost, we will adjust the final balance due.
In addition, we will need approximately 16 parent chaperones, eight male and eight female. Â The number of chaperones depends on the number of students going to camp. Â ALL CHAPERONES MUST HAVE A CLEAR BACKGROUND CHECK in order to participate. Â Chaperones will be responsible for their group of students and will be trained in advance. Â
This camping experience will give us an opportunity to extend our curriculum and provide a terrific educational opportunity for our students. Â In past years, it has proved to be a sharing, learning and fun time for all students and adults involved! Activities at camp include problem solving, cooperative and recreational sports, and various activities that tie into science and social studies curriculums. Â All these activities are extensions of our class studies and provide an opportunity for hands-on learning and lifelong memories!
We hope to see you on JANUARY 16TH for more information. Â A representative from the camp will be at this meeting. Â Please bring your questions!
Sincerely,
Mr. Short
Mrs. Lahooti
Mrs. Rachwal
Mrs. Shupe
