RI.3.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.

RI.3.3 Describe the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect.

RI.3.8 Describe the logical connection between particular sentences and paragraphs in a text (e.g., comparison, cause/effect, first/second/third in a sequence).

RF.3.3c Decode multisyllable words.

L.3.2f Use spelling patterns and generalizations (e.g., word families, position-based spellings, syllable patterns, ending rules, meaningful word parts) in writing words.

We will be working on the 3rd grade writing prompt as well as,

Writing informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

We will be talking more about arrays and learning about tape diagrams. Please make sure your child is reading the whole question on their math homework. Many questions ask for an array and a tape diagram.

3.OA.A.2 Interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 56 ÷ 8 as the number of objects in each share when 56 objects are partitioned equally into 8 shares, or as a number of shares when 56 objects are partitioned into equal shares of 8 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a number of shares or a number of groups can be expressed as 56 ÷ 8.
3. OA.A.4  Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 × ? = 48, 5 = _ ÷ 3, 6 × 6 = ?
.3.OA.B.5 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.2 Examples: If 6 × 4 = 24 is known, then 4 × 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.)

3.OA.B.6
Understand division as an unknown-factor problem. For example, find 32 ÷ 8 by finding the number that makes 32 when multiplied by 8.

3.OA.C.7 Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.

Social Studies:

3 – G1.0.1: Use cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) to describe the relative location of significant places in the immediate environment.

Weekend Homework

Hello!

Here is the weekend homework:

Zearn 30 minutes

Read 30 minutes

This week we talked a lot about main idea and key details. Their homework is to write the main idea and 3 key details to support that main idea. They can do this from a book they read over the weekend. They can either write it down and hand it on Monday or email it to me this weekend. They all should have written down my email, but if they did not get it, it is…

ahespen@dearbornschools.org

Their spelling test score should be in their planner as well from today.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Thursday Homework

Hi Parents!

In your child’s Oakman folder is their individual NWEA scores for math and reading. In blue I put where they should be at beginning of 3rd grade. At the top of these papers I also wrote their DRA Level so that you are aware of where you child is at, DRA level 28 is where beginning 3rd graders should be. Please take a look at this paper.

We have our first math test tomorrow. I am putting up the online study guide for them to take again as well as some quizzes. This will be on Edulastic through Clever just like last nights homework. The homework, exit tickets, and homework helpers are also great study tools.

As usual we have our spelling test tomorrow. They need to  be doing a spelling activity through iLearn to prepare for the test.

As another way to communicate I have decided to make a Remind account. This is a way for parents to contact me directly and you can also see the work we do in class. If you click on the link below you may sign up for that as well.

My door is always open, please don’t hesitate if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for the support,

Miss Hespen

Math Study Guide

Wednesday Homework:

They need to complete the online study guide for our math test on Friday. This link will take them to the site, but they can also get it through Clever on Edulastic.

https://app.edulastic.com/#renderResource/close/MTg2MDc1ODk2NA%3D%3D

Some families have contacted me because they are having trouble accessing the study guide.  Here are step by step instructions:

  1. Click on the link above
  2. Click sign in with google
  3. Type in their ID number. At the end of the number you need to add @dearbornschools.org
    1. For example, if my number is 20108900 then I need to type in 20108900@dearbornschools.org into the username.

I also want to them to go on Zearn for at least 10 minutes. This is a great tool for them and it is fun! They have their logins taped to the inside of their planners.

Please make sure you are signing your child’s planner each day.

Have a great day!

Miss Hespen

Reading & Math

Good Morning!

Reading

Your child brought home their book bag this week. The books inside are at their approximate reading level. These bags will be coming home daily. Please be sure your child spends time reading each day, both independently and with you. The paper inside the book bag lists reading strategies we will be working on this year. They will highlight a strategy as we focus on it during reading groups.

We are finishing our NWEA testing this week, yay! I am also doing my best to complete all DRAs by the end of the week. I will send home a note with their NWEA Reading and Math scores along with their reading level once DRAs are completed.

Math

At the end of each week they will be bringing home checked homework, exit tickets and occasional quizzes.  Please keep these at home so they can use them as a study guide for our tests. They will be bringing home checked homework, exit tickets and a quiz this Friday so please check your child’s folder. The homework helper is a great tool to use as a study guide as well which comes home with their homework.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!
