Week of December 3rd

Happy Monday!

Friday: Parent meeting in cafe at 9am. I encourage you to try and make it! Mr. Abu-rus and support staff will be there.

Here is a look at our week:

Reading

We are starting a new unit about ways characters shape stories. Here are the standards we will be looking at this week:

SL.3.1b Follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways, listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).

SL.3.1c Ask questions to check understanding of information presented, stay on topic, and link their comments to the remarks of others.

RL.3.2 Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.

RL.3.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

Writing

We are working on an informational writing. Each student has a different topic. Ask them about what they are writing about at home and talk about it!

W.3.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

W.3.7 Conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic.

W.3.10 Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello!

Thank you for the parents that came to the ELA parent meeting. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.

Over the break please have your child read to you each day. It is so important for them to be doing this and talking about what they have read. I had them write in their planner, “Read, read, read!”

Also have your child enroll for the mathathon through iLearn:

Click on the mathathon link.

The code is 7xrmrt

Then they just click enroll.

The mathathon will be on Tuesday, Nov 27th. If you have any questions about this please email me.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am thankful for all of my students and all of the Oakman community.
