Library Update
Due to rewards day being scheduled at our library time, students may not be able to check out a new book today. If the librarian is not able to reschedule, we will just check books out next Tuesday! Sorry for the inconvenience!!
News 4/8/19
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a restful break:) Reminder: Conferences are this week on Wednesday! They are invite only- a blue note was sent home last week if you were invited to attend. A reminder note will be in red folders today.
** Please make sure your child is completing their nightly literacy homework and returning it colored and signed on Mondays. It is a very important step in order to prepare them for first grade. A new literacy sheet for April is coming home in folders today!
Language Arts: We will be working on author’s purpose and blending syllables this week. We will be learning that author’s write to Entertain or to Inform us. Ask your child this week after they read a story if they know why the author wrote it (to entertain or to inform). In writing, we are starting our informational research writing! I will need some parent volunteers to come in a couple of days to assist in the researching process. Please reach out to me if you are interested/available. Please keep practicing sight words and personal words at home!
Math/Science/Social Studies: We will be doing lessons 25-30 this week in math. We are still decomposing with number bonds. Please continue to do the nightly homework that follows each lesson. You can access the Eureka math website or use the parent tip sheet to help if needed.
In science, we are starting a new unit. We will be learning about living/non-living things. This week we will complete a living/ non-living station lab and discuss animals and what they need to survive. In social studies, we will be moving into our last unit. This unit is all about public issues. We will be discussing this week our school rules and how they are connected to laws.

Leader In Me
We are starting Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood. I am also sending our Leader in Me bag home this week with one student. The bag will be sent home on Monday and needs to be returned on Friday each week. The rules/games/activities inside the bag are also posted below on the blog.
Leader in Me Family Bag
When we get back from break, our classroom will be starting a Leader in Me Bag. A student who is showing leadership will be chosen each week to take the bag home for the whole week. Inside the bag are family matching games, a book, etc. to play together that include the 7 habits! The bag is red and if your child is selected that week, the bag will be sent home on Monday and will be returned Friday that week. Thank you! I have attached all of the instructions about it and some 7 habits refreshers! 🙂

Spring Conferences
Good Morning!
Conference notes are coming home today for Spring Conferences on April, 10th right after we get back from break. These conferences are invite only, so your child may not have one coming home. Please reach out to me if you want to have a conference and didn’t receive a blue note or you have any questions.

News 3/25/19
Update: This week before spring break, I will be doing a lot of assessing for report cards. Reading bags should be updated from last week. Since we are assessing this week, I will not be seeing my reading groups. New reading books will not be going home this week. Continue to read the books that I sent in their bags and we will start with reading groups right away once we return from break!
Language Arts: We will be working on finding unknown words in the text this week. A good strategy to practice at home is to ask “What does the word mean?” if your child comes across a word they do not know. We are learning to look at the picture for clues. We are also practicing rhyming words this week. This week is our last week of opinion writing. We are writing about our favorite books with supporting reasons why! Please keep practicing sight words and personal words at home!

Language Arts We are still working on silent e this week. By the end of the week, we should know all of the long vowels and how they say their name when we have the silent e! We are moving on from narrative writing, to opinion writing. We will be working on what an opinion is and how to find reasons to support your opinion. We will be reading a lot of great opinion books this week such as, ” I Will Never Not Ever Eat a Tomato.”
Math/Science/Social Studies In math, we are still working on number bonds and decomposing! We are doing lessons 10-15 this week. As the numbers get higher for addition, some students are struggling with this new concept. Please continue to do the math homework nightly. These skills are the foundation for what they need to do next year. In science, we are wrapping up our weather unit! We are learning about droughts and meteorologists this week. In social studies, we are expanding what we know about maps and where we live. We are discussing the United States and the concept of a map key and globe.

Thursday, 3/14: music concert with students arriving @ 6:30PM. It is expected that all students attend the concert. Please let me or Mrs. Baloga know immediately if your child is unable to attend the evening performance. The concert ends at 8.
Friday, 3/15: It is popcorn Friday this week.
On March 22 from 9-11:30am we will be hosting our fourth annual leadership day. This event includes visitors from the community to participate in learning some more about Leader in Me at Lindbergh. This year we are opening it up to parents who would like to attend. Mrs. Tiba will be sending out a formal letter this week, but I wanted to put it on the blog now in case you are interested. I have attached the registration link to our “Class Links” area on the blog and in the link below. Use that link to fill out the form to register. If you have any questions, just let me know.
