Last Day of School!

I made a short slideshow of pictures for you to keep that I will be playing for the kids today! One of them has a song, but the sound quality didn’t turn out great so I am uploaded the song link and the regular slideshow here! Thank you so much for welcoming me into Lindbergh! Retirement Celebration

A message from PTA:
Please join the PTA tomorrow, June 11th, immediately after school to celebrate our amazing  staff members, Mrs. Lorber, Mrs. Bush, and Miss Kim, who will be retiring this school year. We will have some delicious cake and cupcakes donated by parents, Emily Blumenstein and Stacey Krol!
 We will be located on the black top behind the school, where the upper Elementary dismisses. See you there!
**Also remember to wear comfortable tennis shoes and label water bottles for field day tomorrow!

News 6-10-19

Happy last week of school!! 🙂 

Reminders:

Field Day- Field Day is tomorrow (Tuesday). Kindergarten has their field day in the afternoon starting at 12:30. Lunch for field day will be pizza, but you can always have your child bring a lunch to school that day. Our color is yellow! Please send your child in a yellow outfit for the day!! Please apply sunscreen before school- I will have some to reapply if needed. It is going to be warm tomorrow!

Cleaning- This week, we are doing a lot of cleaning! Today I will be collecting reading bags– they will not be sent home at all this week. We will still be reading in school, but books need to be collected and organized. We will also be taking home all of our items in our seat sacks and from our Leadership Binders on Thursday.

**Locker clean out will be this week- I will let you know on the exact date.

** We will be taking everything home by Thursday. No need for backpacks or anything on Friday!

Last Day- Our last day is a half of day on Friday. I will have a little celebration towards the end of the day where we read a story, look at some pictures, accept awards, etc. Parents are more than welcome to attend! Kindergarten doesn’t have a graduation, so this is just a little way to celebrate! We will start out celebration around 10:30- thank you!!

News 6-6-19

I hope everyone had a great few days off! We have a couple reminders for this short week.

Reminders:

First Class: Our first class lesson is today followed by the assembly. Please make sure to send your child today to school with a flashlight that has their name labeled on it! Thank you so much!

Donuts for Dads: It is tomorrow (Friday) at 9:00 a.m.! We have all of the food we need besides water bottles, if anyone can bring those in please let me know!

Spelling Tests:
The last one for the year is being sent home in mailboxes! We have no more spelling tests for this school year!

 

Language Arts: We are reviewing sight words and blends this week and also finishing up our things for Donuts for Dads!

Math/Science/Social Studies: We are starting Module 6 this week, which is all about Geometry. We will be learning about flat shapes and 3-D shapes. We are doing Module 6 Lessons 1-2 this week. In science, we have finished our plant unit and I will be assessing this week. We will also be discussing the pond and relate it to living things and what they need. In Social Studies, we will be creating posters and give solutions to our classroom issue we agreed upon. I have the posters so no need to bring anything in for this!

Math: Module 6 Lessons 1-2

Continue practicing reading, sight words, and spelling words daily. Use at least 1 night a week for writing practice with your child. They can write about what they did in school, family time, friends, practices, ect. Goals include capital letters at the start of the sentence only, punctuation at the end, spaces, and details in the writing. We should be at about 2-3 sentences on 1 topic.

Field Trip Reminders

Just a few quick reminders about our field trip tomorrow!

Chaperones: Meet us at the school first so you can get the list of kids in your group. We are leaving the school at 9:30!
Please meet us at U of M. We are doing the pond first.

U of M Pond- 10:00-11:30

Eat Lunch- 11:30

Leave for the park- 12

Leave park- 2:15

We will be having popsicles at 1. A parent is bringing them for our class! See everyone tomorrow!

  • It will be warm, but we are walking through a nature area. Please keep that in mind!
  • Apply sunscreen and bug spray before coming to school.
  • Please wear tennis shoes. No boots or sandals- we are walking for a good amount of time!

First Class Lesson- Celebration

Our last first class lesson and assembly will be on Thursday, June 6th. During the assembly, we are celebrating that we have reached Lighthouse status as a school! On Thursday, we would like for students to bring a small flashlight to school with their name on it. We will have a time at the assembly to shine our lights as a representation of the beacon of light from the lighthouse. Thank you!!

News 5-28-19

I hope everyone had a very enjoyable Memorial Day weekend!

Reminders:

Donuts for Dads: Invitations are being sent home today. Please RSVP and return them to school by Friday! With work schedules, I would like to know who can attend or who else might be coming!! Donuts for Dads will be on Friday, June 7th at 9:00. It lasts about an hour.

I have also created a sign-up genius just like Muffins for Moms. If anyone can bring anything in that day, please sign up for a slot!

Field Trip:

Our field trip is this Friday. We will be returning to school at 2:30. Please dress your child in comfortable clothing, tennis shoes, and have sunscreen applied before school starts! We will be outside and will be doing some walking. Please send lunches that day in paper bags to be disposed of. There is not a place to store lunch boxes.

Spelling Tests:

This Thursday will be our last spelling test! Assessments are still happening, but reading groups should be a little bit more normal this week! I am asking that all reading bags and books to be returned to school this Friday. Although we will still be reading and doing reading groups until the last day, I am starting to collect books that were sent home.

 

Language Arts: We are comparing adventures in stories this week using a double bubble map. In writing we will be working on our Donuts for Dads books.

Math/Science/Social Studies: We are working on Module 5 Lessons 23-24 this week and taking our Module 5 assessment. Please continue to do the homework at home. We did skip some lessons due to content already being taught and our group this year. In science, we are growing yet another thing- radishes! Students will be coming home with these on Friday to continue the process! (I don’t want them to sit over the few days off without being watered) In social studies, we are focusing on a classroom issue and creating a poster to display ways we can solve it. The classroom issue we picked is using too much paper. You can discuss this week with your child on how to solve this issue and how this issue could affect our environment!

News 5-20-19

Happy 4 day week!:) I hope you have some great plans for this long weekend coming up! We have this Friday (the 24th) off and Monday (the 27th) off.
Kindergarten is very busy for the next 4 days!

Important reminders:
Plant Part Soup: We are making our plant part soup tomorrow. Parents have signed up for all the ingredients we need! Please make sure to bring them today or tomorrow so we can make our soup!

Field Trip: Permission slips were sent home in red folders last week. Please let me know if you did not see a permission slip and I will send an extra today. Permission slips and money is due this Wednesday! 

Reading Groups: I will be assessing for on various things for the next 8 days in Kindergarten. I may not be able to see all reading groups because of that. Please check reading bags. Even if I do not see reading groups, I am still encouraging all groups to select books at their level to bring home (it is such a critical time to keep reading right now!)

Donuts for Dads: More information will be sent home soon about this event coming up! Donuts for Dads will be on June 6th in the morning so you can plan accordingly!

 

Language Arts: We are comparing and contrasting adventures in fiction stories this week! In writing, we are working on producing another narrative piece. We have also been writing about school issues and taking a stand too (tying in Social Studies to our writing) Please keep practicing sight words and personal words at home. Practice making sentences at home too. Kindergarten should be able to produce 3 sentences at a minimum right now! 

Math/Science/Social Studies: We are working on Module 5 Lessons 13-21 this week. Lessons 15-17 and 19 are being skipped in this module because this is content we have already covered. Continue to work on the homework pages at home! In science, we are making our pant part soup this week and discussing what plants need. Our lima beans are sprouting and we are continuing to make observations. In social studies, we are choosing a classroom issue to solve and coming up with possible solutions. Students will soon create posters to show possible solutions.

Updates!

Plant Part Soup:

Parents have signed up for diced tomatoes, green beans, corn, peas, spinach, and the cups/spoons.

We are still in need of just a few items for Tuesday.
– Potatoes (half cooked)
– Carrots (canned)
– Celery
– Veggie Broth (2 containers)

Please comment below if you can bring any of those items in for us! Kindergarten is excited to eat “plants”!

Field Trip:

Permission slips will be sent home tomorrow about our field trip on the 31st. We are going to the pond, having lunch, and playing at the park together. The cost is $4 per child. We need chaperones to help out, please let me know if you would like to attend the field trip with us!

Plant Part Soup

Parents- A note will be coming home tomorrow about supplies we need for next week! We have been learning about plants and we will be making plant part soup next Tuesday! If you can bring any items on the note that is going home, please let me know!
