Congratulations to our entire community! Charles A. Lindbergh Elementary School in Dearborn Public Schools has been designated an Exemplary High Performing Schools National Blue Ribbon School for 2019 by U. S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Our school is one of 362 schools in the nation and one of thirteen schools from Michigan to be recognized in 2019.
This is a huge accomplishment and one that we will continue to celebrate.
Congratulations again!

Hi Parents!
Requested by my home room mom, please do not seal the white envelopes that came home when they come back to school. I have no idea what is in them, but I was told to have them come back by Tuesday!!
Have a great weekend:)!
We have practiced reviewing for science using Kahoot online. Our class loved it so much- they wanted to keep practicing at home!
Here is the link to the quick science review we did:
https://create.kahoot.it/share/energy-review/07b6c8e2-f6bb-41b9-bcd2-aeb837bd3492
Everytime I make a review Kahoot, I will share on my blog in advance so students may practice at home as well as at school.
Kahoot is a free website- some students were wondering if they can find other academic kahoots. You can sign up for a free account and search for other Kahoot reviews. However, I would monitor this activity. Since it is a free website, anyone can login and create a kahoot.
To air on the safe side, I will send you ones that I have created here on the blog:)
Happy Friday!
I am sending home blank postcards today. Your child may already have done this at Open House. If so, please just disregard.
The PTA is sponsoring Postcards for Policy to show student voice for policy programs in our schools. This is in hopes that the house will pass the governor’s budget to keep up to $6 million just in Dearborn alone!
I have attached the paper that went home just in case you want to read more about it or the paper got lost in the shuffle of things!
I would like students to create their postcard at home if they have not done so already. I have attached an example of what it should look like.
– Our school name and a picture can be drawn on the front (self-portrait, school mascot)
– On the back the student writes: Hi my name is __________ and I am in ________ grade. Please pass the 2020 School Aid Budget.
Thank you!!

Here is a look at our week:

Reading groups will be formed soon after NWEA testing is finished and I have an accurate DRA score for this school year- more news on that coming soon! We are discussing setting and continuing character traits this week. In writing, all students have chosen their topic for their personal narratives and we are starting our rough drafts!
Spelling: We will be having our tests on Friday (unless there is a short week or time off of school!) Use SpellingCity at home to practice beyond what we do in school or just have students practice writing their words, using flash cards, etc.

Math: ** We took a short quiz last week to check for understanding on how the first few lessons of math are going. I wrote one word at the top to show you their progress thus far (there is not a grade or percentage on the quiz) The word will either say: exceeding, meeting, progressing, or concern. Exceeding means they are preforming beyond the expectations right now, meeting means they are meeting the standards and understanding the concept at a 4th grade level, progressing means that students are moving towards understanding the concept and needs additional practice and re-teaching at both school/home, and concern means that there is a concern right now on how a student is preforming and a discussion between you and I is highly recommended. Take a look and please let me know if you have any questions! We are also recording these in our data binders. I want to foster independence in 4th grade and have students self-reflect on where they are at and where they want to be!**
Our goal is to complete Lessons 6-8 this week! I have attached the homework copies and tutorials to go along with the lessons.
Science/ Social Studies: In science, we have tested out our Twist-O-Matic models and are continuing our discussions on energy. We will be taking a quiz at the end of the week. There is not need for a study guide to go home for this quiz- we get most of our information from Mystery Science videos and explorations. We will be watching the videos at least 3 times and reviewing in school before taking the quiz. In Social Studies, we are continuing to learn about physical characteristics found in the United States. We are creating powerpoints to showcase what we know!
Important Dates:
– NWEA Language this Tuesday (our last one!!)

** The first meeting has changed FYI!
Our tentative Homeroom Parent Mtg that was planned for Friday the 13th, will be postponed until next week to allow for our staff to obtain their parent volunteers and for the tentative homeroom parents to plan for the meeting. I will send out an email directly to each parent as well as the staff about the date for next week. We want everyone to be able to attend the meeting and allow our staff to fill their spots. Thank you so much for your understanding. Danielle Lewis, Mother V.P.
Happy first full week of school!
Scholastic Book Fair will be open this week. Our class is going for our preview on Monday to check it out! Open House is also this week, Thursday at 6:00 p.m. I hope to see everyone there! The book fair will be open during Open House.

We are focusing on narrowing our topic and brainstorming details this week!
