Sharpen the Saw!

It is important to incorporate some movement into your day! My challenge today is to get some physical activity in today whether it is inside or outside. I found some great workout videos for kids that are featuring some NFL players. Check them out! Mr. Harvey might have already shared this with you since it is apart of the American Heart Association.

Happy Monday! I hope you enjoyed your spring break. I read a few books that have been sitting on my shelf for far too long and painted all of the doors in my house!

Like I said in yesterday’s post. Some things have changed to our schedule and I will explain them here! So please make sure to read everything on the blog today thoroughly. Contact me if you have any questions about it.

There are no assignments today. Just practice the words, make flash cards, or play a game on SpellingCity.

Writing

-This week, we are taking some time to thank the healthcare workers and essential workers that are out there working very hard. I am sure some of you may have households with essential workers or know someone who is one. We can never thank them enough for all that they are doing during this time!! I personally have a connection to someone in the healthcare field. My sister-in-law is a CRNA who works at St. Mary’s in Livonia. She reached out to me asking if I could send some thank you messages to her from Lindbergh students, so she can hang them up in the hospital and spread some positivity!
Assignment:
-You have a choice on how you would like to thank a healthcare worker. You can create a card, make a poster, write a thank you letter, make a picture, etc.
– Make sure whatever option you chose, you try your best and create some positive messages to help brighten someone’s day:)
– When you are done, take a picture of what you made (you can be in the picture to if you would like) and I will have my sister-in-law print and hang up your messages in St. Mary’s Hospital. Send the picture to me at hullj@dearbornschools.org
Here are some examples of what you can do:

If you are unsure of an idea, send it to me and I will let you know! This will be due on Wednesday.

Math

-Math is a little bit different starting this week. Greatminds.org came out with a really excellent resource over Spring Break. There is a teacher who is recording her virtually teaching all the lessons. I have watched them and they are GREAT! They are a little bit longer, so therefore, I am making the homework and the other Eureka math video optional. I still would encourage you to watch the Eureka Youtube video first (they are typically short) while trying to do the homework at the same time. Check the homework with the answer key and then start the math assignment. However, I am only requiring you now to watch the virtual lessons from Greatminds and doing the Problem Set. Assignments are still on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday I will post a Google Hangout link from 3-3:30. I will be available during that time to help with math/answer questions. That will not be the time for the class to just hangout and talk- that will still just be on Friday.
Assignment:
Module 5 Lesson 3- We are learning how to take an addition sentence using fractions and also write it as a multiplication sentence.
1. Optional: Watch the Eureka math lesson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_ujfz8bqmk (Lesson 3)
Homework Must do: 1 a,b,c,d,e and 2 and the check with answer key
2. Watch the virtual lesson for Lesson 3
https://gm.greatminds/en-us/knowledge-for-grade-4-em-m5l3.org
If this link doesn’t work, go to Greatminds.org make sure you are on the page called Knowledge on the Go, find 4th grade, click Module 5 and find Lesson 3.
3. Problem Set. Must do: 1 a,b,c,d,e and 2. Send it to me (either on Google Classroom, Remind, or Email) Due Tuesday

Reading

-Reading has changed a little bit too! One of my favorite things to do in our classroom is to read a class chapter book. We have already read a few together such as BFG, Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing. I want to continue reading a class chapter book together even though it has to be online. I think this will help with motivation and I will be able to see everyone more often- which is a bonus!! I am going to be reading the book Wonder. I will read Tuesday and Thursday this week at 12:30-1:00. I will send out a Google Hangout link on Google Classroom. I only ask that students have index cards or paper and something to write with. I will read the book to them online, we will chat and type messages with discussion questions, I will have them create vocabulary cards, and there will be an assignment for them to do at the end of the week Friday. I will post more information about this tomorrow. If a student cannot attend the Google Classroom chapter read, no worries! I will record it and post a video for them to watch it whenever they can and the discussion questions will be posted as well.

Since we will be reading a chapter book and doing work with that, I am reducing some of the independent reading work. I still ask that students are reading 25 minutes nightly and keeping up with their reading group assignments. Beyond that, I am just assigning one Readworks article this week that will be posted today and due by Friday. Students will have on chance to re-do it if need be. I will focus on current events or nonfiction since we will be working on fiction together with the Wonder book.
Assignment:
1. Readworks article called Picking up the Pieces (assigned on Google Classroom). Questions due Friday.
2. Reading Group Work (assigned on Google Classroom) due Friday.

Science

-No assignment today, a new one will be posted tomorrow. If you want to get a head start, you can click the link and watch the videos on the weekly calendar.

Let’s Recap!!

  • Math Module 5 Lesson 3 Due Tuesday
  • Writing Due Wednesday
  • Readworks Due Friday
  • Reading Group Work Due Friday
  • Zearn Daily

Sharpen the Saw!

Today my challenge is to continue to draw or create an Easter craft since you will be working on drawing with writing anyways! There is a nice Youtube channel that has tutorials on how to draw Easter pictures. The channel is called Draw with Ian. Here is an example:

I apologize for the lengthy blog! Hopefully it is the longest one this week:) Just keep in mind, I will be posting a Google Hangout link for students to read with me on Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30-1:00. I will also be available for help/answer questions on Google Hangouts on Tuesday and Thursday from 3-3:30. We will still have our Google Classroom Hangout for fun together on Fridays at 3:30.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Happy Easter Everyone!! I hope everyone enjoys their last day of Spring Break:)

I am going to post the calendar so you can take a look at how next week will go. There are a few changes that I made, but a lot of it is still the same routine. Math and reading have changed slightly. I am going to do more Google Hangouts with reading and we are going to start a class chapter book together.
I will post all the specific details and directions on the blog Monday!

Again, I will remain flexible with assignments and please always communicate with me with any questions/concerns. I will have virtual office hours on Tuesday and Thursday too so students can ask for help! Things may change or adjust once Dearborn release their Remote Learning Plan. Until then, we are going to follow my weekly schedule!

Scholastic Online Book Fair

The PTA is hosting an online book fair which runs April 8 through April 21. There’s a wide selection of materials for all ages—pre-K through high school—including books, educational workbooks, puzzles, arts and crafts, building sets, and more. Check out the “shop by grade level or age” feature.

Lindbergh earns 25% with every purchase when you click “Shop Now” from our webpage: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/lindberghflyers(The shopping will not be activated until April 8.)
In order for our school to receive credit for your purchases, you must start from that specific book fair homepage (not a Scholastic Book Club or related site) and sign in. You do not have to be a Lindbergh parent to shop… so share with your friends!

All purchases ship directly to customers, with FREE standard shipping when you spend $25 or more (on books only – not the junky stuff).

Thank you for supporting our school and we hope that this opportunity to find new books provides some joy during this uncertain time. Keep reading, Flyers!

Lindbergh Flyers,

We have created a special video to share with you- we miss you and hope you have a great Spring Break!

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to wish everyone a safe and healthy spring break! We will be on break from 4/6-4/10. That means that there will be no blog posts/assignments/emails for that time! I will be sure to post on Sunday (4/12) for a “week at a glance”, so you know what to expect when we return.

I hope you enjoy this time with family and really take the time to relax and enjoy the small moments- you deserve it!! You have been working hard with this online adjustment for the last three weeks and I am so grateful for the constant communication from you all.:) With that being said, I will contact you today through email if there is anything missing that your child has not yet turned into me before the break begins. I am very flexible and understanding at this time with work and assignments- I understand all of the juggling you need to do on a daily basis. I just want you to be aware and keep up the communication (it is easy to get lost in the list of assignments on Google Classroom).

Lastly, continue to look at Lindbergh’s blog. I know Mrs. Tiba said there will be a posting about report cards and information about how that will work. I know that they will not be mailed at this time, but you can access them through a different way. Check Lindbergh’s blog for instructions and directions on how to do that.

I enjoyed seeing all of the friendly faces today on Google Hangouts:) Mrs. Baloga enjoyed being able to say hi too! Have a great spring break.
