Good Morning Everyone!

I am posting the assignments for today on the blog and anything that needs to be turned in on Google Classroom, so check both! There will be a lot of information (I apologize!), but I want to be very clear and thorough, so please make sure to read everything! I will also give a weekly outline so you can plan and know what is expected for the rest of the week. I will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today for any questions/assistance.

Spelling

This week, continue to practice Week 24 spelling words, since we did not test on Friday and did not have much time to practice at school. You can find the list on SpellingCity and most students have a paper copy of the list in their blue folders. Spelling City Click the link to access Spelling City or you can get to it through Clever.
Assignments:
1. I will post a spelling practice page on Google Classroom. Students will type sentences using their spelling words and turn it in to me. Due: Wednesday
2. Students can also pick one game on SpellingCity and play it as practice. This does not have to be turned into me.
3. Spelling Test– There will be a spelling test that opens up on Friday on Spelling City. It plays the audio of the word and students type all 15 words and then submit it on Spelling City. Due: Friday

Writing

We will continue with our compare and contrast essays that we have been writing in our classroom about the three branches of government. It is okay if you did not come to school to pick up your writing folder, you can still do everything you need with the resources I have on here. In school, we have already read the two articles, picked two branches to compare and contrast, and record information on a Venn Diagram. If you do not have all of these things at home, I have posted them below.

There is also a video to watch to get more information on the three branches.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlxpQmYdwZY

Assignments:
There will be nothing due for writing until Friday. However, I will be be posting everyday about writing so you can see what a good pace is for everyday.
1. Today, students should fill out the similarities and differences box on the Blueprint I am attaching below. Students need to find three similarities and three differences. They also need to find text evidence for their reasons. Students know how to do this! We have done two other examples of this together on different topics and have kept them in our writing folder to help us. I am also posting a student example of what it looks like (The student example is from the topic when we compared and contrasted Martin Luther King and Ruby Bridges). Please reach out to me if you need help with this part of writing.

2. By Friday, students will complete their whole blueprint and then type their 5 paragraph essays based on the prompt I give. That is what they will turn it- nothing else! I will lead you every step of the way! Today is just filling out the similarities and differences.

Reading

Students will have some sort of story to read every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday along with questions to submit to me. Usually, I will be using the site Readworks. Students know how to get on this- they do it every week!
Assignments:
1. Read the story on Readworks called Siblings and answer the questions Due: Tuesday (I assign Readworks on Google Classroom, that is where you can find it)

*Reading Group information* I will still have reading groups read their stories and do work. However, while we are adjusting this week the expectations is just to read still 25 minutes nightly and on Friday I will post reading group work assignments for each reading group I have.

Math

Just like reading, we are going to be doing a math lesson every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Assignments:
1. The mid-module review that students have received before this time off, will still be due when we return to school. If you need a copy, I will attached one below.

2. Today, students will be learning Lesson 8 in Module 4. First, they need to watch the Lesson 8 video. Then, they need to try to homework page FIRST. This is out of order from the normal of what we do in school. I will have the answer page for the homework up so students can check. THEN, students will do the problem set. Once the problem set is done, students will take a picture of it and send it to me. Due: Tuesday
Students can send the picture to my email at hullj@dearbornschools.org

  • Watch the video first

Students can warm up with the google slides, but do not have to.

*I have posted a survey for students on Google Classroom. They should fill these out today so I know they can access Google Classroom at home and turn it in to me. Thank you!*

Hi Parents and Students!

I know this has been a very hard time for all and I thank you for being very supportive and flexible during this time. This is all still very new for teachers as well. Below is an introduction and the expectations for what the next couple of weeks will look like. As always, requirements could change at any time and I will do my best to keep you updated along the way. With that being said, feel free to reach me through email, Remind, Google Classroom, or the blog if you have any questions or concerns along the way. We are in this together! I will be available Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to talk/answer questions/ help students and communicate with parents.

Introduction:

This blog will be the platform of communication for the next couple of weeks. I will also be using Google Classroom to post information and assignments that need to be turned in. The instructions on how to join my Google Classroom is on the post below. If your child is already apart of Google Classroom and needs help logging on at home, please click the link below. 🙂

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1q17nvpy7i7zXnd8uzlJ3s2ECvU8UeGmX5TOYc9BnRQs/edit?usp=sharing

Your child will also need to be able to get on Clever.com They use this at school, but it may be new for them at home. They can find Clever on the Dearborn website in the student portal. They may need to find our school the first time logging in and type in their email, but after that one time it should login automatically. Please let me know if you need help accessing Clever.

I have also sent each of you your child’s own remote learning plan with access to links and login information that is their own personal logins. Please let me know if you did not receive that from me.

Expectations:

Please make sure to check the blog daily for assignments or updates. Every Sunday, I will post a “Week at a Glance” to let you know the general outline of the week and provide you with any links that you may need. (This week, I will post it on Monday) The plan is as followed:

Writing: There will be one prompt a week with that piece of writing due the following Sunday. This can be worked on over the course of a week.

Reading/ELA: There will be a reading assignment posted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This assignment will typically be a story to read with questions to answer or an article from Readworks. The assignments will be posted on Google Classroom.

Math: There will also be assignments posted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There will be videos and/or slides regarding the math lesson. Followed by that, there will be homework to work on and check and also a problem set based upon the lesson. The plan is to still follow Eureka math like we would be at school.

Science and Social Studies: Will be bi-weekly. I will rotate and have Science one week and Social Studies the next. The assignments/due dates will be posted and communicated.

Spelling: I will still have words to practice for spelling and assignments to go along with that as well.

It is very important to keep up on all of these assignments, this will be critical to keeping your child on point over this break. There is no specific times students have to be working on these assignments. It is flexible with your schedules. There are just days to follow when items are due. I will contact you if these assignments are not being turned in on time.

Lastly, do not forget to “Sharpen the Saw” with your family during this time. Here are some helpful tips to remember during this time:

  1. Talk to your child and acknowledge that unexpected change is hard and that you are there for them.
  2. Keep a daily routine, including bedtimes and time to dance/exercise.
  3. Eat healthy and drink water.
  4. Create tasks that show productivity and completion (art, puzzles, cleaning, etc.). Make a to-do list and have them check it off daily.
  5. Educate them about what is going on and answer their questions. Firmly tell them they are safe and there is no danger.
  6. Tell them what to do to feel in control, such as hand-washing, self-care, etc.
  7. Parents—- take care of yourselves!!!! They are watching and learning from you how to navigate all of this (no pressure haha).

I have also attached a schedule that I found very helpful and will try to follow as well!

Remember that we all must work together as a team to make sure that community health is made a priority and ensure that students continue on with critical learning. **Please check the blog tomorrow for the first Week at a Glance message**

Just as a reminder again- I have posted a survey for students to do today just to answer quick questions to see if they can access Google Classroom at home. Have them turn that in by tonight or Monday morning. Thank you!

Hi parents,

Starting on Monday (3/16/20), we will be conducting learning online through Google Classroom. Information will be on both the blog and Google Classroom. We will still be covering all content areas: reading, math, social studies, science, writing, etc. and all resources and assignment will be posted online. Students will still be expected to complete and turn in assignments online. Students will receive grades and are expected to be doing work during this time out of school.

This is a new process for all of us in Dearborn and communication will be key during this time. Therefore, please always check the blog everyday because things can change during the next three weeks. As far as we know, the week of April 6-10 will still be Spring Break and that week will not be counted for assignments. As of now, Dearborn plans to be returning to school on April 13th.

** Since we are going to be using Google Classroom, is it important that you and your child know how to access our Google Classroom at home like they do at school. ***
Below is a link of instructions on how to login to our Google Classroom. It is titled Ms. Miles 2019-2020. I will also be sending individual letters through email with all of the online resources we will be using along with student logins and passwords.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_eZEmBJfyUyTCOADHvdEouwsBi7P0_bnaNC1WfUaMmM/edit?usp=sharing

Thank you for your flexibility during this time and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you have. I will keep you updated every step of the way!

Hello Lindbergh Families,
In an effort to help us prepare for any contingencies regarding the Coronavirus, please take a moment to complete the following survey regarding your access to technology at home. This is a school wide survey so we are asking that families with multiple students enrolled only provide the name of their oldest child on this survey. These results are confidential to the school and will be shared with the necessary classroom and resource teachers and administrators only. Please complete this survey as early as possible.
