Hi Everyone! We made it through our first week of online learning! I am so thankful for the constant communication from parents- this online learning would not be as successful without your help and continued support! If you want to reach out to me feel free to by email/Remind. We can even chat on the phone- You can reach me best during these times 9-3:30 Monday through Friday. Again, I know things are constantly changing. As of right now, Lindbergh’s plan is to continue with what we have been doing until we find out otherwise. I will keep you updated along the way.

**Remember on Friday there was a new Math assignment (Lesson 12) and a new Reading assignment (Readworks: Deep Sea Detectives)** A lot of you have already done it- Good job!!:)
I will be contacting you today if you have anything missing. I understand it was a big adjustment week and I am here to help out in anyway that I can.

I am just going to give a quick overview of what is to come for Week 2 today, more detailed plans will be posted on Monday:

Spelling

It seems the SpellingCity test was giving everyone a hard time on Friday! I have never used the test online this year (we usually just take it pencil and paper) so bare with me! I am going to send out individual student usernames and passwords and you can use that to login and take the test from here on out!
– We will have a new list of words this week. They are already up on Spelling City under Week 25 (suffixes). Here is the list below:
1. grateful
2. kindness
3. comfortable
4. beautiful
5. portable
6. wilderness
7. respectful
8. loveable
9. wasteful
10. uncontrollable
11. triangle
12. parallel
13. intersect
14. degrees
15. protractor
– There will be one weekly activity this week on Google Classroom for Spelling and the test again on Friday.

Reading

I will still be doing a reading assignment on Monday, Wednesday, Friday. It might be Readworks, a passage, a Scholastic article- just keep a look out on Google Classroom and on here!
– Reading Groups have also been given assignments on Google Classroom. They have all week to work on those!

Writing

I have given everyone feedback on their 4 paragraph essays- good job 4th grade! Writing will be a little shorter this week. Students will pick a person to do some research on and have a choice if they would like to create Google Slides presenting information about the person or type it. Students can work on it all week. Writing is due on Friday. Specific information will be started on Monday- stay tuned!!

Math

We will continue this week with the same routine. A new math lesson every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Monday, we will start with Module 4 Lesson 13.

Social Studies

This week will be our Social Studies week! We will not have anything for Science. We were learning about the government and responsibilities of citizens in school. Students will be doing some reading with an online Social Studies interactive book.
http://textbooks.wmisd.org/Downloads/4th/Chapter3.pdf

Students will have Chapters to read and questions to answer!

4th Grade Rocks!

I just wanted to end with saying that students and parents have really done a great job last week. You have blown me away with your effort and dedication to learning!! I also loved seeing everyone that made it on Zoom Friday. I will be hosting another one this Friday.

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend- I miss each and every one of you!
Mrs. Hull

Here is the link to join the zoom today! https://zoom.us/j/115975461?pwd=aUI4Y282cHJnbE8waWVzOXlkTmdpQT09

Happy Friday! Everyone has done a great job so far with their first week of online learning. It has been very difficult to not be in front of everyone and not feel the normalcy of our school routines! I gave out a survey to see if the class wants to have a Zoom video meeting so they can chat with their friends and I can see how everything has been going!
I may do the Zoom today at 3:30. Keep watch on the blog and Google Classroom- I will keep you updated if I am going to start it at that time.

We have a new math and reading assignment today- It will be due on Sunday. I am also going to give some reading group work to start!

Writing

– The final typed draft is due TODAY for writing. Most of turned it in and I put comments on it. You can find the google doc to type your final draft on Google Classroom.
Keep in mind:
* The story should be 4 paragraphs, not 5 (that was a typo)
* Your blueprint is what helps you to make your paragraphs (just follow the boxes)
* You need to hit TURN IN once you are done typing
* Look and see if I send you any comments- you may have to fix something!
* After you turn it in, you are all done with writing!

Spelling

-You have a spelling test today! You can take it anytime- it will be due by SUNDAY!
– To take the test, you go on Spelling City and there is an assignment called “Spelling Test Week 24”
– It will read you the words and you have to type them. You may want headphones!
– Let me know on Google Classroom if you have trouble getting it to work

Science

-If you have not yet, you need to take your Volcano Quiz on Google Classroom. It is due TODAY!
– The written answers mark you wrong if you do not type exactly what it wants you to, so do not worry- I will check it (it doesn’t mean you have it wrong)

Math *New Assignment*

-We are going to be skipping Lessons 10 and 11 in math (they are better to do together in school)

If you are in need of a chromebook, Lindbergh is offering one chromebook per family. Please message me or email me if you want more details!

I made a video to hopefully help a little bit with Lesson 9 Problem Set if you were stuck! It is also a good tool to check and see if you were getting the answers correct.

I am not used to making videos, so be nice!:) Bella is even starring in the video!

Hi Everyone! There will be no new assignments today. 🙂 So I encourage everyone to spend today typing their final draft in writing and submitting it and catching up on work!

Writing

You should have your blueprint all done at this point! If your blueprint is all done about the branches of government, you go onto Google Classroom under writing and start typing your blueprint. It should be 4 paragraphs long! When it is done you press TURN IN. Here is an example of what the story should look like at the end before you turn it in! (This example is on a different topic, yours will still be on the branches of government)

** If you are not done with your blueprint and need help finishing, go back in the blog and look at Day 1,2,3. I have examples, directions, and a video to help you!!

Reminders!!

  • Math- Lesson 9 Problem Set (sent to me) is due TODAY! I will be posting a helpful video of me explaining on the blog and Google Classroom soon.
  • Reading- Leprechaun Language Poem with Questions is due TODAY! You can find this on the blog under Wednesday Day 3 OR Google Classroom.
  • Writing– Final Draft Due FRIDAY!

  • Do not forget about the Special Teachers…they have posted assignments on our Google Classroom too!

Remember, you will be getting a new reading assignment and math assignment on Friday. So begin with the end in mind and do other things today, so you do not feel overwhelmed with work Friday and this weekend!

This video goes step by step that can help you with the problem set (the shape chart for number 1)

He doesn’t write on the actual problem set, but he goes in order and shows you how to do each box.

This problem set was tricky – I know! Please reach out to me if your child is having difficulty- we can set up a time to do a video chat where I can teach or go over the lesson.

I am also going to post a video of me explaining it tomorrow so stay tuned! Remember- it is not due tonight!

Hi Everyone! We are halfway through our first week of online learning! I have been getting a lot of student and parent feedback already! Please reach out to me with questions/ concerns/ successes along the way- we are in this together. 🙂

Today we have two new assignments (reading, math) that will be due Thursday and some other assignments to continue to work on. I will start with the new ones first.

Math

We finished up lesson 8 on quarter turns. Thank you to all the parents that sent me the problem set through email! Today we are going to do lesson 9.
1. Students will watch the video first.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHg1Ofrzaj8
I also have a fun video that we watch all the time in the classroom to check out:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3AOoLbA3us
2. Students will then do the HOMEWORK page first for lesson 9. This homework lesson (shapes at the top) will help with the problem set today.
Must do: 1,2,3,4 Students will be using pictures of pattern blocks to form angles. Students can cut out the shapes on the top of the homework to use as a manipulative if that helps.

Then check the homework once you are done using this.

3. Next, do the problem set for lesson 9. Must do: 1,2 Can do: 3
This problem set is what you send to me. You can continue to email me a picture, send it through Remind, or I am going to post a video on Google Classroom today to teach students how to turn them in on Google Classroom. Either way works!

These slides can help with the problem set. They go along with it and provide nice questions to ask.
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1QyGS-5m2UNoZhixvt0dwWEVfYEB4fZSa3Eg93dgFYWA/edit?usp=sharing

4. Do not forget about Zearn and Khan Academy at home too! I suggest working 20-30 minutes on both or alternating like we do in school. Zearn one day, Khan the next day, etc. Student should work to follow the lessons in math, so student should try to get to Lesson 9!

Reading

Good job on the Readworks article on Monday! We have a new reading passage this week with questions, however, it is not from Readworks today.

1. Students will read a St. Patrick’s Day Poem called Leprechaun Language.

2. After reading, students will answer the questions that follow the poem.
– Students can print the questions, write on them, and send me a picture of it through email
– Students can read the questions, answer them on a piece of paper, and then send a picture of that
– Lastly, students can go onto Google Classroom and I have the questions posted and they can answer it electronically (this might be the easiest way!)

3. Students should also be reading 25 minutes a day. On Friday, I will be posting specific reading group assignments. For right now, they can just read some of their reading group books or read a book of their choice.

Getepic.com this is also a site we use in school. This has hundreds/thousands of online books! All you need is our class code. I posted the instructions below

Writing

Writing has been a journey! Students have done this type of writing 2 times already with me, so they should know the expectations!
1. Today, students should be writing their conclusion on their blueprint. After today, the blueprint should be done. Please look at my Day 1 and Day 2 posts if you need help with the blueprint. Here are some conclusion examples to help guide students:

Conclusions

1. While reading the two texts, I was surprised to see how many things Martin and Ruby had in common. Martin Luther King and Ruby Bridges had many similarities, but also many things that were different.

2. I was really happy that segregation ended because of these civil rights heroes. After reading the two texts “Walking Tall” and “Honoring King”, Martin Luther King Jr. and Ruby Bridges had many similarities and differences.

3. In conclusion, after reading “Walking Tall” and “ Honoring King”, I learned that Ruby and Martin both helped to end segregation and were true civil rights heroes. There were so many fascinating similarities and differences between the two texts

I will also post these examples on Google Classroom.

2. If your child is done with the blueprint, they can start typing their final piece! The final piece is 4 paragraphs. I will post an example of what it should look like below using a different topic as an example. (Do not add color to yours, I just added color to my final piece to show important parts)

Reminders!!

  • Spelling Practice on Google Classroom for Week 24 is due today
  • Science Discussion Questions are due today
  • Math Lesson 9 Due Thursday
  • Reading Leprechaun Poem and Questions Due Thursday
  • There will be a science quiz on Friday about the videos (so watch more than once!)
  • There will be a spelling test Friday on SpellingCity
  • I will be contacting you today if you are behind on assignments

Sharpen the Saw!

My habit 7 suggestion today on this possible rainy day is to do some yoga!

I know this may be a stressful time for students and parents. Try your best to Sharpen the Saw daily.
This video may help with students having a difficult time
