Monday Day 6- Online Learning

Monday, March 23, 2020

This is the start of our week 2! Please read all of the blog- it is here to help you!

Spelling

We have started a new list this week! List 25. The words are posted on SpellingCity and my “Week at a Glance” post from yesterday.
Assignments:
– Students will practice typing their words using them in sentences again this week. Due: Wednesday I posted it today on Google Classroom.
– Students will take their Spelling Test on Friday on SpellingCity

Writing

I have decided to not start the writing assignment until Wednesday and give students more than a week to finish. There are a lot of students that have not turned in their math homework from Friday and reading assignment. I want to give everyone enough time to get things turned in and the last writing assignment was lengthy!:)
Assignment:
– No new writing assignment until Wednesday this week.
– You can do free writes and have your child write about how their first week on online learning went, something they have learned last week, make up a story, etc. I would love to read any “free write” stories!

Reading

On Friday– I posted a Readworks story with questions called: Deep-Sea Detectives. That is something that still needs to be done- I understand weekends are busy and many of you did not get the chance yet.
Assignment:
– Today there is a new Readworks Assignment called : Born to Run
* This story goes with Social Studies this week and also has inferencing questions ( A skill we were working on before being out of school)
* You get one redo on the Readworks to improve your score
* It is due on Tuesday

***Reading Groups- Each reading group has an assignment for this week along with reading. You can find the assignments on Google Classroom. This is due Friday.***

Math

We are going to be learning about the types of triangles today! These are the vocabulary words you will see:
Equilateral- A triangle with all three sides that are the same length
Scalene- A triangle with no sides having equal (same) length
Isosceles- A triangle with two sides that have the same length.
Assignment:
– Today the assignment is Module 4 Lesson 13
– First there are two videos to watch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQUTVgT9RXY (song)
This song really helps to introduce the new triangle words and what they mean.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkF-5DSyYnE (lesson)
– Next, students should do the homework first and then check it with the answer key. They do not need to send this to me. Must do: 1,2,4,5,6

-Then, students should do the Problem Set. This is what they take a picture of and send to me! Must do: 1,2,4,5,6 Due: Tuesday

Don’t forget!! Zearn should be done daily and students should practice on Khan Academy- It is a great math resource!

Social Studies

Last week was Science, and this week we will focus only on Social Studies
Assignment:
– Students will read Section 5 and 6 from an interactive online S.S. textbook
*Section 5 is called: Why Does our Federal Government Have a System of Checks and Balances?  (pages 115-119)
*Section 6 is called: What are the Rights and Responsibilities of Citizens? (119-123)
– Students will have interactive videos and charts on the book (they should click and do those)
– Students will also have questions to answer about Section 5 on Google Classroom. This will be due by Friday. The questions go with the Stop signs in the reading called “Stop and Think”
