Hello! My name is Charissa Duncanson and I am the general music teacher at McDonald Elementary school. I received a degree in Vocal Music Education from Wayne State University, and have been teaching at McDonald since December 2014. My main instrument is voice, however I also play piano and guitar.

When I am not at school or singing I like to spend my time with my husband, family, and cat, Emma. I am also involved in a Music Educator Organization, DOSA (Detroit Orff Shulwerk Association), where I serve on the board. We meet every month and learn new ways to teach and share music with our students.

My goal, as a music educator, is to expose every student to music, and to instill the appreciation of music, while at the same time teaching musical concepts. I strive to expand my students interests through composing, movement, singing, and instrument playing. Using these methods, I am committed to introducing concepts in an attractive way allowing my students to grow into well-rounded music consumers.

  2. Hi Mrs.duncanson. I’m not sure if I should wear my clothes for the concert and then come to school or put my clothe in my backpack or Go home after school change and come back. Please answer! BYE!!! Can’t wait for the concert!!!!!

    • Hey Wegdan,

      You can bring your concert clothes in your backpack and then change after school is done. You may stay after school with me until the concert as well! Can’t wait!

  6. Good morning, Alex has my permission to leave from Stout on Sunday with the bus to the church for the concert. However, I know you need a “signed” permission slip and was wondering if you could send one home with him today. He will be there for the Madrigal choir practice. Thank you.

    Alex has informed me that a picture for honors choir will be take tomorrow and that he is to dress up. Is this information correct? Does this mean he is to wear all black?

  9. Good afternoon, Alex played a song yesterday to earn a belt. He says that you sent a text with his grade. After checking both my cell and e-mail we have not been able to find it. Perhaps you wouldn’t mind sending it again? Thank you so much.

  10. Good Morning, I am inquiring about how Alex can earn his belts for his recorder. It asks for a password, I don’t have a password.

    • Hello Lisa,

      the recorder page is password protected. try typing “play” in the password box. once you are in, you will find my recorder number. Alex knows the steps to call and leave me a message for his belts for recorder.

    • Hello Elyas! So happy to see you are on the blog! Recorders are for 4th and 5th grade only. I will make an exception for students in Ms. Ford’s class, those 3rd graders will get to start earlier.

  18. hello Mrs. Duncanson, i hope you feel better!!! i just wanted to ask i am going on the blog to test for a belt but i cant find where your number is can you please tell me what your number is so i can test for a belt before you come back, because the sub said i should test before you come so you can give me a belt!?? so i hope you can give me your number so i can test thanks love ya!!!!!!!!
