It’s supposed to be beautiful all day! If you can, take a walk or at least step outside for a few minutes!!

Social Studies 4/1

Happy April!

  2. The CER is due Friday, April 3–since next week is Spring Break
  3. I posted a Check-In on Monday and I would love to hear from you!

Social Studies 3/31

Good Morning, Everyone!

This morning I have posted the Investigation 4: Nepal CER assignment on Google Classroom. This is the ONLY assignment that I will be posting this week. It should only be completed AFTER you have finished the Investigation 4: Sources assignment. It is due Friday, April 3, since next week is Spring Break.

This assignment is where you get to put together all of the things you have learned about child labor in Nepal and practice creating an argument. Do not forget to use all the materials you need to help you–there is a slideshow with helpful hints, you have all of the notes you took on the sources, and there is an claim/evidence page to help you compare your work to others.

If you have questions, please let me know πŸ™‚

Social Studies 3/30

Good morning!!! Happy Monday!

I hope that everyone is doing well πŸ™‚ You can listen to my directions for today by clicking here.

Since your Investigation 4: Sources assignment is due today, I am not posting the next assignment until tomorrow. I know that many of you are still finishing up last week’s assignments.

Some Advice:
1) Remember, when you read the headnote/attribution you need to focus on the Who, What, When, Where, and Why–those are the main questions. What can you learn from that background information? Why does it seem important?
2) Many of your answers may seem similar between sources–this is good, it means that the sources agree with each other (that makes them more trustworthy!)
3) Focus your thinking on the central question–what does this source tell me about why hazardous child labor exists in Nepal?
4) Take a breath!! I am interested in seeing what you have learned from the sources, not if you are finding exactly the right answer. Most of the questions have multiple correct answers πŸ™‚

If you’ve got questions, please ask! Don’t sit there staring at your screen or panicking! I’m here to help. You might also want to talk to a friend–when we do this type of reading in class, you always have the opportunity to talk to others. HOWEVER your work should be your own. You will not receive credit for copying and pasting someone else’s work.

***If you would like to begin your CER today, email me and I will make the assignment available to you right away.

New this week: I’ve recorded myself giving directions and talking about assignments– any link you see that is to Vocaroo or starts with voca.ro is one of my recordings πŸ™‚ If you click the link, it should take you to a screen that has a big green play button–click it to hear me talk about things!

I have also attached a document here with a proposed schedule for Social Studies work this week πŸ™‚ You obviously do not have to follow these instructions, but I recommend splitting up the work for my class this week! Don’t try to get it done all at once πŸ™‚

CNN10: Initial jobless claims set a record, grocery store workers are hailed as heroes, we visit Central America, and a reporter evades an approaching herd of bison.

About Grades

I wanted to clear up some confusion that I have noticed about how and where grades, scores, or feedback could be found for this last week’s assignments.

1) Your scores and feedback on these closure assignments will ONLY be visible on Google Classroom–at this point, these assignments will NOT appear on Student/Parent Connect

2) I am keeping track of your progress with Google Classroom and a written record and sending updates via email as we go forward.

3) If I received the Asia Review or the Asia Assessment from you by 4pm on March 20, you should see a score for it out of 4 when you open the assignment.

4) My feedback for this week’s assignments is directly on the Google Form assignments–open them again and click “View Accuracy.” You can click “Edit Your Response” to make corrections and resubmit.

5) Everything on Student/Parent Connect was assigned on March 12 or earlier

6) The assignments that I have prepared for the upcoming weeks will NOT be Google Forms. They will be Google Doc assignments πŸ™‚ Hopefully that will help with feedback and spreading work out over multiple days.

Please view this message from Dr. Maleyko about the closure message from the MDE.
