Update & Summer Learning Resources

 by Mirvat Sabbagh

Hello Howard Families,

I hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy, while enjoying the summer break! As you may already know, our district’s School Re-opening Committee has been working hard to plan for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. Our district will continue to meet state requirements while doing what is in the best interest for all of our students. We will keep you posted and let you know when the plan is finalized. Thank you for your ongoing patience and support during this unprecedented time.

I also wanted to pass along a link to a 4-week calendar with resources per grade level, just in case you were interested. Here is the link: https://www.greatschools.org/gk/articles/4-weeks-of-k-5-summer-learning-activities/

Summer Leaning

Avoid Summer Learning Loss

To Avoid Summer Learning Loss, students should continue to read 30 minutes daily. They should complete at least two chapter books (100 pages or more) this summer.

In addition, Students have their Learn Math Journal from Modules Six and Seven. They should complete at least one math lesson per week. Their Succeed book has a Homework Helper page for each lesson, as well as Zearn.

To advance your reading and math skills, MobyMax math, MobyMax Reading Skills Literature, and MobyMax Reading Skills Informational are recommended 20 minutes per week (each). MobyMax is adaptive to each student’s ability level. Once a student has mastered/passed one standard, they are advanced to the next.

Highly Recommended EnrichmentIXL is offering a 30 free trial over the summer.

Thank you for sharing your child with me this school year:) I have enjoyed having each and every-one of them in class!

Have a GREAT summer! Be Safe and Enjoy!
