Dear Parents,
We will be having our second grade Thanksgiving Feast on Monday, November 19. We are asking each child to pay $8.00. The food will be delivered from Rafics Falafel Restaurant. It will include chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and dessert. Please send the money with your child this week. The teachers will be taking pictures and posting them on Dojo.

Dear Parents,
There will be no school for all Dearborn Public students on Tuesday, November 6th. Teachers will be attending an educator’s presentation.
Also, this Thursday, November 8, there will be scheduled evening conferences at Maples School. Your child’s teacher will be sending home a reminder note with the day and time of their conference.
Additional conference dates are Tuesday, November 13 and Thursday, November 15. Please ask your child’s teacher if you need to change your conference date.

Hello Parents,
This week at Maples School, we have two exciting Halloween activities!
Monday (Oct. 29)-Trunk or Treat from 5:00-7:00. This event costs $5.00. Tickets will be sold at the door.
Wednesday (Oct. 31) Second Grade Halloween Party!
Students will be able to wear a costume to school. (No masks, weapons, or fake blood is allowed.)
Please send 1 or 2 bags of wrapped candy for your child to pass out during our party.
In addition, students will be going to different second grade classrooms to trick or treat!
Friday, Nov. 2-Half day for students. Dismissal will be at 11:45. There will be a pizza sale at dismissal.

Dear Parents,
Soon, it will be the end of the first quarter! Wow! Time is going by so quickly!
We have been very busy practicing measurement in math and learning about the properties of matter in science.
This week we will focus on beginning blends in spelling. Students should be reading all of their books in their reading bags every night!
At the end of second grade, every child should be reading at a level 28.

Hello Fall!
The weather is starting to change! The cooler temperatures are arriving! Therefore, please make sure to send your child with proper clothing for outside recess.
Starting this week, the second graders will begin a math unit about measurement. In writing, we will continue to write about our apple orchard field using our sensory details. The students will practice and identify words that have the short u and long u sounds.
Please remember there is a parent meeting this Wednesday, October 17 at 10:00am in the cafeteria.

We can’t believe that it is week 7 of learning in second grade! The students are busy with reading groups, practicing math strategies, and learning to write a narrative.
This Week at Maples School:
Wednesday, Oct. 10
Walk or Bike to School Day! Students who walk or ride their bike will receive a brag tag!
Thursday, Oct. 11
Family Game Night from 5:00-6:00! Students will be able to learn and play math games.
Friday, Oct. 12
Friday will be a half day. There will be a pizza sale at 11:45 a.m.

Dear Parents,
On Friday, we will be going on a field trip to Erwin Apple Orchard and Cider Mill. The cost is $10.00. Please make sure your child has turned in their permission slip and money by this Wednesday, Sept. 26. Also, all students must wear pants and tennis shoes. We will be walking through a pumpkin patch and rows of apple trees. It tends to get very muddy!
We are looking forward to a fun field trip on Friday!
