January 22-25

Hello! I hope that everyone enjoyed their long weekend and kept warm! Below you will find what we are working on for the week of January 22-25.

Daily 5 – The book this week is called Polar Bears. We will be learning about non-fiction texts.

Spelling – This week starts our spelling unit. The word family for the week is the –at family. The spelling words that will be coming home are: bat, cat, fat, he, on, for.

Math – We are continuing to work on module 3. For the next few lessons we will be comparing length and height with cubes.

Homework Pages: 229, 233, 234, 237, 238

Writing – For the month of January we will be working on informational writing. We will be finishing our writing on Penguins!

Science – For science we are focusing on severe weather. We will start by talking about what is a meteorologist.

Week 19 – 1/14-1/18

Hello! Below you will find what we are working on for the week of January 14-18.

Daily 5 – The book this week is There was an Old Lady who Swallowed some Snow. We will be working predicting and will also be discussing fiction vs. non-fiction.

The sight words are: with, make, he.

*Next week we will be starting our spelling unit. Each week we will cover a new word family and there will be a spelling test on the words at the end of each week. The list will include word family words and also sight words.

Math – This week we are starting Module 3. This module reviews numbers to 10 and also covers measurement. The homework pages for the week are: 213, 217, 218, 221, 225, 226.

Writing – For the month of January we will be working on informational writing. We will be learning and writing about Penguins!

Social Studies – This week we will be discussing goods from the past and present. In addition we will be discussing goods that we get from the Earth (natural resources).

Week 18 – 1/7-1/11

Hello! Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful break with their families. Below is what we are working on for the week of January 7th-11th.

Daily 5 – The book for this week is Tacky the Penguin. We will be learning about penguins this week and writing about them next week.
The sight words for the week are: this, are.

Math – We will review module 2, which was shapes and move onto module 3 which focuses on measurement. The homework pages for the week are: 182,191,201,205,209

Writing – This week continuing to learn about informational writing. We are finishing up writing about Reindeer. We will also be writing about a new goal for the New Year!

Social Studies – We are reviewing goods and services. We will also start learning about trades.

Week 17 – Dec 12th-20st

Hello! Below is what we are working on for the week of December 17th-21st.

Friday we will be having a Holiday party in the afternoon. We will be decorating cookies. I will be supplying cookies, frosting, and sprinkles to decorate. In your child’s folder will be a note with a Ziploc attached. Please send in $1 in the bag to cover the cost.

On Friday Kindergarten students will also be allowed to wear their pajamas to school.

Daily 5 – The book for this week is The Polar Express.
We will be reviewing sight words this week.

Math – We are continuing to work on Module 2. This module is about geometry and covers 2D and 3D shapes. The homework for the week are pages: 165, 169, 173, 175, 177.

Writing – This week continuing to learn about informational writing. We are continuing to learn and write about Reindeer.

Science – We have started our unit on seasons and weather. This week we are working on the season of summer.

Week 16 – December 10th-14th

Hello! Below is what we are working on for the week of December 10th-14th.

Daily 5 – The book for this week is The Gingerbread Boy.
Our sight words are: play, up.

Math – We have finished module 1 and now have started module 2. This module is about geometry/shapes. The homework for the weeks are pages 147,151,152,157,161.

Writing – This week we are starting to learn about informational writing. The topic for the next two weeks will be on reindeer.

Science – We have started our unit on seasons and weather. This week we are working on the season of spring.

Hello! Below is what we are working on for the week of December 3rd-7th.

For the field trip on Friday, please make sure your child has a brown bag lunch, or lunch in a plastic grocery bag.

Our sight words are: little, was.

Math – We will be finishing module 1! The homework pages are 127,131,135,139,143

Writing – This week we are working on opinion writing. We discussed different activities that we like to do in the winter.

Science – We have started our unit on seasons and weather. This week we are working on the season of winter.

Week 14 – 11/26-11/29

Hello! Below is what we are working on for the week of November 26-29.

A permission slip will be coming home for our field trip on December 7th to the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. The cost is $11 per child and the day of the field trip your child must bring a brown bag lunch. Please have the permission slips signed and money returned to school on Friday November 30th. Thank you!

Daily 5 – The book for this week is A Tree for All Seasons.
Our sight words are: big, said.

Math – We will be completing lessons 29-32. The homework pages are 115,119,120,123,124.

Writing – This week we are working on opinion writing. We discussed if we would rather eat pie or a cupcake.

Science – We have started our unit on seasons and weather. This week we are working on the season of fall.
