October 17, 2018 Brag Tags!

Image result for brag tags

This year at Maples Elementary, the students will be able to earn brag tags throughout the school year.

Here is some information to explain what brag tags are and how your child can earn them.

Brag tags are incentive tags that your child can earn for positive behavior and choices that he/she makes during the school day. The tags are placed on a necklace that is kept at school and brought home at the end of the school year. Brag tags are not meant to take home but can be looked at if you come into school to visit. We will also have them available when you come in for parent/teacher conferences.

Brag tags are earned when the teacher notices a choice or behavior that is done by a student that exceeds expectations. Brag tags can be earned for many things. Some of these may include: helping others, walking quietly in the hallway, good listening, being a buddy, following directions, etc.

Positive reinforcement is one method that we will use this year to encourage positive choices and hard work.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact any of your teachers!

Week of October 10-15, 2018

So many things are happening this week at Maples Elementary, especially for the 3rd Grade.  Our third-grade classes are each visiting the Firehouse Safety House to reinforce their learning about fire safety.  Permission slips have been passed out and should be returned to their teachers as soon as possible.

This week, we promoted Walk/Bike to school as an initiative for a healthy and active lifestyle.  Each student who walked or biked to school on October 10 will receive a brag tag!

In Math, all third classes have taken or still going to take the MidModule Assessment for Module 1.  Please be sure that you are checking your child’s daily homework in order to help your child be successful for this upcoming assessment!

Thank you always for all of your support,

Maples Third Grade Team

September 24-September 29, 2018 3rd Grade News

We finished up another great week at school.  We had many fun things happen this week in our academic subjects such as completing Topic B Math Quiz and learning about how to describe a character in Reading.  We also completed all of the NWEA testing which have been recorded in your child’s planner.

This week, our third graders got to meet Firefighter Jane.  Firefighter Jane shared many important information about what happens during a fire emergency.  Our students got to learn about fire prevention, fire safety and important information with obtaining free smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors for families who cannot afford them.

The Dearborn Fire Station will provide free smoke detectors and free carbon monoxide detectors and also install them for no extra charge as a courtesy to promote fire safety.   If interested with installing free smoke detectors, click on the links below.

Welcome to Our Third Grade iBlog

Third Grade Welcome Letter for Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to 3rd grade! Third grade is a great time for children for students to transition from lower elementary and get acclimated to a new upper elementary routine which will give them new adventures in learning. This is a year of important transitions, as well as gaining new skills. Our Third Grade Team is hoping to make your child’s learning experience a fun and exciting one!    So many things happen in Third Grade!

In Third Grade, we have high expectations for all of our students. It is important that all students come to school on time each day ready to learn.  This means that each student should have all of her or his nightly homework completed, come prepared and bring a positive attitude!  In our community, we treat each other with respect and always do our best.

In Third Grade, we will be celebrating your child’s progress and growth and build on small successes.  Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child’s self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in our third grade.

We are looking forward to working with your child this year and helping him/her to achieve his/her full potential.

Attached is our Third Grade Parent Notes that was given at our Third Grade Meeting this past Thursday, September 13, 2018. We have also attached the PowerPoint Presentation for parents who were not able to attend the meeting. Please feel free to review and if you have any questions, please email your third-grade teacher.
