Just as a reminder, this week, we will continue to be M-Step Testing for Math.  We will be testing Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Please make sure your child is not absent and is on time at 8:50.  We began testing right away!

Alongside with the M-Step Testing, we are also NWEA testing in the afternoon.  We are only testing for 30 minutes increments so the students will not get tired.  We will continue to test for NWEA ELA, Math, Language and Science in the next coming weeks.

The Third Grade will begin ELA M-Step on Tuesday, May 13, 2019.  We will continue to test on Wednesday and Thursday.  We will begin testing right away at 8:50, so please make sure your child comes to school on time and is not absent for any of these important dates.

Please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast.

The week after, we will resume Math M-Step on Tuesday, May 21, 22, 23.

The Third Grade Team

This past Friday, May 3, 2019, our third grade classrooms had the opportunity to celebrate Arab Heritage Month.  This was a cultivating event to learn more about the different cultures and traditions of our students, staff and family.  It was a great success for everyone to come together and celebrate!  The event included traditional dresses, food, dessert, students’ artwork, pictures, henna tattoos, music, dancing,  henna tattoos, and DABKE!

We want to thank the parents who volunteered to help make this a successful event!  We want to also thank Mrs. Jaber for organizing our first annual Third Grade Arab Heritage Celebration.  Everyone enjoyed this celebration and we have decided to continue this event as a Maples tradition for future years!

The Third Grade Team would like to meet with the parents regarding the upcoming M-Step Test that begins on May 2, . This is an important meeting for you to attend and get information to assist your child with the M-Step Testing.  The meeting will begin at 8:40 and will last approximately 40 minutes.  Please mark your calendars and we looking forward to seeing you!

This week we began a unit of study called “Animals Through Time.” In our first Mystery we explored the idea that the rock under our feet sometimes contains fossils. Those fossils reveal how habitats have changed through time. For example, fossil shark teeth and fossil starfish found in the center of North America are evidence that what is grassland today must have been an ocean in the ancient past.

You can help support your child’s learning by striking up a conversation about an exotic habitat you might have visited on vacation. If feasible, consider visiting the nearest science museum and/or quarry to see any local fossils that have been found in our region.

NWEA TESTING WINDOW~January 7-February 1

NWEA Schedule Winter Testing

In the next few weeks we will be taking the NWEA.  Please make sure that your child sleeps early and eats a healthy breakfast.

Last week, most of the students already tested for the NWEA Science.  If your child was absent on the day that we were testing, he or she can make up the test on the next day.

The Week of January 14-18, 2019, we will be testing for NWEA Language.

During the week of January 21-25, We will be testing for NWEA Reading.

During the week of January 26-January 29 th, We be testing for NWEA Math.

Please make sure your child does not miss any school and to come to school on time and prepared for testing.
