MONDAY, JUNE 8 IMPORTANT NEWS! Student Pick-Up and Distribution of Belongings

Hello parents,

This Monday, June 8th from 10-11 you will be able to pick up your child’s belongings from the school. Any materials they left behind in the classroom have been packed up for them and will be distributed. Your child needs to return any books that were given to them by a teacher that belong to the school. They also need to return any school library books that may be at home. Please keep these items in their black book bag and return the entire bag on Monday.

All of your third grade teachers will be by the main office door. Please just walk up to the door and I will have boxes available for you to drop books or any items that belong to the school. You are not allowed to enter the building. Therefore, we ask that only a parent come to pick up their child’s items. Your 3rd grade child may come with you but please no other siblings or family members to ensure the process is done quickly and safely for everyone.

If the location of the pick up changes, we will send a dojo. We will also send a reminder again on Sunday evening. Please let your third grade teacher know if you have any questions!

Educationally yours,

Maple Third Grade Team

Fun Family Project

Last Friday, we wrapped up our Fractions Unit on Zearn. We learned what a fraction is, unit fraction and how it is a part of a whole, equivalent fractions and how to label fractions on a number line. As a way to culminate our understanding of fractions, I am sharing a Fraction Recipe book that you can use to do a fun cooking or baking activity with your child. It was very fun compiling these recipes, I hope you have fun using these recipes in your homes. Enjoy!

New Learning Plan Letter

Good morning Maples parents and students. All of the staff at Maples are missing you so much and hoping everyone in your family is staying healthy.

Last week the state of Michigan approved Dearborn’s home learning plan for the remainder of the school year. This plan begins today for all Dearborn schools and includes math, reading, science and social studies lessons. Instruction will now include new learning as well as review of the most important concepts already taught.  The special area teachers will also be sharing art, technology, music and physical education lessons on their blogs. You can find their blogs thru the Maples School blog.

These lessons will be graded and marked on the final report card of the year. The grading for final marking will include 2 for meeting, 3 for progressing and 4 for limited participation or no completion. Teachers will be working hard to support students as necessary by holding video classes, phone calls and online learning. At this time, we cannot enter the building to distribute additional computers but plan to do so as soon as it is allowed. Please message your child’s teacher on Dojo immediately if they are unable to complete work for any reason. Students who do not complete the lessons of the next 8 weeks may be required to attend summer school.

In order to help your child be successful in completing his or her school work for the remainder of the school year I am asking for your help.

Please check the school Dojo and your child’s teacher’s Dojo everyday. Messages will be posted daily with assignment and important information.

Please be sure your child is sitting at a table to complete work and all distractions like the TV or YouTube are turned off.

We ask that you check if your student has completed all assignments every day.  Older brothers and sisters can help check too.

Students should only work on the computer for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. They should then take a quick break for activity or to run around outside for a few minutes. This will prevent their eyes or brain from getting too tired. Also we know families and children are sharing the computers so this will help them take turns.

Students should only be playing on video games for a short time each day. Parents please do not let them play for hours at a time or play late into the night.

Finally, students should be going to bed at a reasonable time, by 10 or 11 at the latest and getting up by 10 or 11 in the morning. Teachers will be holding Google Hangouts during the day for students to listen to lessons and it is important that they attend.

Friday begins Ramadan and we know families will be having Iftar at 8:30 in the evening and staying up later.

However, school work will still be expected and teachers will be available all afternoon for lessons and help. Please be sure your child is going to sleep as if they were coming to Maples and getting up and completing the work in the early afternoon during Ramadan.

We truly appreciate all your help and want to help you in any way possible. Please stay in contact with your child’s teacher in Dojo for any help. I am also available for anything you need. I will share my email and I respond to Dojo messages as well. Stay safe and keep learning.

3rd Marking Period Report Cards-How to access ParentConnect

The Elementary Report Cards for Marking Period 3 are currently being processed and will be available to parents in ParentConnect, Monday April 6, 2020. Following is some information on how parents can access report cards data in MIStar ParentConnect. Please note that if you have more than one child, you should be able to see data for all your children and you do not need separate logins for the different schools (if your children attend more than one school).

How do parents login to ParentConnect? To login to ParentConnect, parents need their PIN and password; this is how it is obtained: Parents go to the Dearborn Schools’ website (dearbornschools.org) and then the ParentConnect link. If they don’t know the login info, they click (Need Your Login Information) link and it will prompt them to enter their email address (as provided to the school and entered in MIStar), and then click Submit. This process emails them their PIN and Password. After logging in, click on “report card marks” module.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Hope you are staying safe and healthy.

Week of April 6-10 Spring Break

Hello
April 6th through April 10th is spring break for the Dearborn Public Schools. During this week students will not need to complete any on-line assignments and teachers will not be available. Students and teachers are on break starting Monday April 6th and continuing through Friday April 10.

Your Third Grade Teachers suggested to get away from your usual academic online work and take advantage of learning in different fun ways for the rest of the week. Learning can look in various ways such as playing with puzzles, playing different games with your family and writing about different things that spark your interest. We have included a Home Learning Menu that you can follow along.

This is only for the week of April 6th through the 10th.
Students will continue their distance learning on Monday, April 13, and teachers will once again be available to deliver on-line and distance learning.
Once again, all on-line and distance learning will resume on April 13 and continue until the end of the school year.
Please remember that we must all do our part to stop the spread of the COVID 19 virus. Please stay home, stay safe.
