Dear Third Grade Families,
We wanted to share an overview of our third grade progress and our plan moving forward until the end of this year. We want to apologize because we have many updates so it is a little bit long but we wanted to make sure you get all of the information.
First, we have already finished all of our DRA testing, NWEA Winter Math and Reading test and completed the 2nd card marking. As a result, we have sent report cards this past Friday. We have one more test we will be doing next week which is the NWEA Language Test. Also, we are on our last topic on Module 2-in Math and we have Topic E quiz (subtracting three digit measurements and solving word problems). Please make sure your child is practicing by completing his or her Math homework by going on Zearn until they have reached Lesson 21. I did not assign a paper homework over this weekend but I expect that they finish all of the lessons on Zearn. As far as NWEA Language Practice, your child can go on Prepdog.org and select the Language Practices tests.
Secondly, as you may have heard about the READING BY THIRD GRADE LAW. This law will affect our current third graders which means that if your child does not get a score of over 1253 on the M-STEP, this will mean that he or she will be forced to repeat third grade. Some of students at the beginning of the year got a Reading Contract so this was discussed at the Parent Teacher Conferences as to how important this state law was.
OUR promise to you as your child’s third grade teachers, we will continue to work with your child and provide the extra support needed for your child to succeed. However, we teachers cannot do this alone which means that I need help from you as the parents to also do your part by making sure your child come home and is completing their reading homework/third grade expectation.
Also, having a talk with your child regarding their behavior and attitude towards school is also important. When your child comes with a healthy mindset coming to school and not wasting time will make a difference in their learning performance. We need to stay focused for the rest of the year and make sure we all succeed with making sure our children understand that their education should be valued.
IF you have any questions, please reach out any one us third grade teachers whether it is Mrs. Atris, Mrs. Casebolt, Mrs. Imsande or Mrs. Massey. We will be happy and eager to help and provide whatever resources is necessary for your child to succeed.
