Literacy: watch the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar – if you have it at home feel free to read it!

Link to book: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQK-Sm1YY

After your child watches/reads the book, ask them about the foods that the caterpillar ate. Were they healthy? Unhealthy? Which foods do you think helped the caterpillar grow best?

We will use this story more than once this week for activities!

Math: Sorting activity: Healthy foods vs unhealthy or sometimes foods. Use a piece of paper, 2 plates, 2 sections of your table, etc. have your child look through your foods at home and have them determine if the foods they are picking are considered healthy or unhealthy. We talk a lot at school about how we need to choose more healthy foods, and that it is ok to eat unhealthy foods but only SOMETIMES.

WEDNESDAY

Literacy: Today have them draw a picture of me! I have included a picture in case they forget what I look like! Have your child write my name Ms. Reid, and add any other writing they want to share with me. It could be a note saying hi, a note about school, a note about what you have been doing. PLEASE send me pictures!

Math: Reread the hungry caterpillar again today. Link to book: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NQK-Sm1YY

Help your child cut out 20 circles. Use paper, paper plates, etc. Once the circles are cut, have them write the numbers 1 through 20, with a number on each circle. Next they should put them in order from 1-20. If you have glue then glue them together into a number caterpillar! Feel free to have them add a circle for a face when they are done, make legs out of the scrap pieces of paper. Need a challenge? Have your child also put the correct number of dots on the circle with the number. Need it to be easier? Make the circles and numbers for your child and then work with them to arrange them in order.

Example below: This is just an example, your child can be creative and use what you have!
