Monday

This week we are going to talk about shadows. We see them inside and we see them outside. They can be big and small, round and skinny. Have fun with these activities. Please remember to send me pictures for evidence of learning. I need to see that they are participating!

Letter X x

Xx says xs like in box, fox, Texas, six

Capital X: Straight line down on an angle, go up to the top and move over, straight line down on the opposite angle. Lines should be one motion, do not let them split it into 4 parts. \ then /

Lowercase x: Small straight line down from the middle on an angle, then back up, move over and another small straight line down at the opposite angle

Literacy: Watch the shadow book here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usvE9C1Bvn8&t=12s

We will use this story more than once this week for activities!

Science: Now it’s your turn to try to make shadows today. You can use a lamp or the light on a cell phone onto the wall. Can you make….

-numbers

-shapes

-any letters

-bunny ears

-any other animals like they did in the book

Movement: I strongly encourage everyone to take the kids outside everyday, for 15-30 mins if at all possible. A simple walk around the block, a game of catch or basketball with the family, playing in the yard, coloring with chalk, blowing bubbles, etc. Please adhere to social distancing rules, but know that it is perfectly safe to be outside with your family. Fresh air is great for us all! Along with work time, getting kids moving OUTSIDE or in another manner is part of the everyday!

Tuesday

Letter Y y

Y says yah like yellow, yes, you, yuck

Capital Y:starts at the top, straight line down at an angle, then go straight up the opposite angle, now draw a straight line down from the bottom

Lowercase y: start at the top, straight line down at an angle, then go to the top on the right and go passed the other line until you have a tail.

Literacy: Watch the shadow book here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usvE9C1Bvn8&t=12s

Science:Today I want to do a  predicting game. When you predict you are making a guess about something. One person will pick different objects in the house like a pencil or a toy and make a shadow with it. The other person has to try to guess what the object is just from looking at the shadow and not at the object.

Movement: Let’s do the hokey pokey today! The kids love this song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVAnoqxKAAc

Wednesday

Letter Zz

Watch this fun video on the z sound and how to write the letter.

Science: Today I want you to do this activity outside if it is sunny. If it isn’t then you can do this with a lamp inside. You need a couple of toys that stand up, a piece of paper and something to draw with. Put the toys on the edge of the paper and then try to trace their shadows. I can’t wait to see your creations.

Movement: You can play shadow tag with your parents or your brothers/sisters. Try to get your shadow to tag the other shadows. If you get tagged you have to freeze like a statue. Have fun and whoever is not frozen wins.

Thursday

Literacy: Today I would like your child to make their own shadow books. Put a few pages together, trace different shadows on the pages and write what the shadow is at the bottom of the page. Parents you are going to need to write what it is and then have your child copy it. Make sure you give your book a title. You could call it “My Shadow Book.”

Movement: Today you get to get outside and do a scavenger hunt. If it’s raining then go outside tomorrow and do a gonoodle song today!
