Classroom Information

Arrival/Dismissal

The safety of all Whitmore students is one of our main concerns.  ALL adults (parents, grandparents, guardians) that need to come into the building at any time should enter through the front door and check into the office.  Adults will not be permitted to enter through back or side doors in the morning with students.  Also, please wait outside for your children at the dismissal time.

Snacks

Our lunch time is 12:30-1:08. Students are encouraged to bring in a healthy snack. I do not allow chocolate, candy, or cookies for snack, please save these for an after lunch dessert.  Some ideas of healthy snacks are: fresh or dried fruits, vegetables, crackers, pretzels, granola bars, cheese, etc.  Make sure they know it is their snack and not their lunch.  Mark it “snack” or use a different container other than their lunchbox.

Water

We have a water fountain in our room as well as right outside our room.  However, if students would like to bring in a water bottle they may as long as the lid closes completely! I do not allow anything but water in the room, spills happen on a daily basis and anything but water creates a sticky mess and unwelcome critters! There is a refill station right outside of our classroom that students may use.

Parent Volunteers

Our classroom has 22 wonderful students in it so far! We are located in room 213. You are always welcome to volunteer or visit our classroom. Please remember that any parent who wants to volunteer needs to stop into the office to fill out a background check. It takes a week or so to process, but it is good for a few years. ALL parents who wish to participate in classroom parties or field trips must have this done.  This is for the safety of our children.  I encourage everyone to come in to the front office and complete this paperwork early in the year!  Many parents have already done this, but you may want to check with our secretary to ensure your paperwork has not expired. We encourage and love parents to join us in school to help out and learn along with us. Thank you in advance for giving all the children your time!

Book Check Out

This year your child will be able to visit the library on the Thursday each week! We are so excited, but please help your child handle and care for the books in a respectful and responsible way. Your child will be able to take his or her book home each week and return it on the next week. Please help your child to be prepared and responsible for library check out!  Students are not able to check out a new book until the old book is returned. Please do not let younger siblings handle the books. Any books that are lost or ripped must be paid for by the child’s family!

Remember to have a quiet space for your child to read at home. Happy reading!
