5th Grade will have their Mid-Module Assessment tomorrow. They have been given a study guide to study, they can also use their Learn book to help them. Attached is a copy of the study guide we did in class today. Note: They do not have to study last question, we will walk through it on the test together.

Curriculum:

Math:

  • 5th Grade – Mid-Module Assessment Tuesday, Dec. 17th. Review rest of the week.
  • 4th Grade – End-of-Module Assessment Monday, Dec. 16th. Review rest of week.

Reading :

  • 5th Grade – Students will read different types of literary text and understand the characters to help them find their theme.
  • 4th Grade – Students will use details to describe the settings and events in a story to increase understanding.

Writing – Students will continue working on The Crane Wife PBW.

Social Studies:

  • 4th Grade – Students will continue to study the Human Geography of the United States by exploring the theme of Movement.
  • 5th Grade – Students will be joining Mr. DeSantis’ class for Social Studies this year. 

Science:

  • 4th Grade – The first unit will focus on Energy.  Students will learn how it is transferred, converted, and related to the speed of an object.
  • 5th Grade – Students will be joining Ms. Sherlock’s class for Science this year. 

Spelling:

All classroom spelling lists, activities, and tests will be online this year.  Students will be given spelling words on Monday each week and tested on Friday.   Please see this document to learn how to view your child’s grades.  Students are expected to study their words at home each night.  Here are some ideas on how to practice words with your child,  Spelling Practice Ideas(please note, the directions on it do not apply).  

4th Grade will have an End-of-Module Assessment on Monday, December 16th. Students have a study guide that they can use to study, as well as their Learn book.

5th Grade will have a Mid-Module Assessment on Tuesday, December 17th. They will complete a study guide on Monday. Students were told to take home their Learn book to use to study over the weekend.

4th/5th Grade will have our Holiday Party together on December 20th. We are in need of some donations to make the celebration a success. Please visit this Sign-Up Genius to sign-up for donations. Thanks in advance!

Next week, 5th Grade will be selling Candy Grams in the Lobby after school. All money raised will go toward next year’s camp, field trips, etc. See attached flier for details.

Math:

  • 5th Grade – Students will be adding and subtracting fractions. There will be a Mid-Module Assessment on Monday, December 16th.
  • 4th Grade – Students will multiply two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers. There will be an End-of- Module Assessment on Friday, December 13th.

Reading : 

5th Grade – Students will continue comparing and contrasting settings and events in a text.

4th Grade – Students will be describing characters in plays. This will help them comprehend more complex text.

Writing – Students are beginning another PBW called The Crane Wife. The text is a drama and the prompt focuses on how two characters impact the theme of the story.

Social Studies:

  • 4th Grade – We will begin a new unit, Human Geography in the United States. Students will focus on how people are connected to the Earth and how people, goods, and ideas move.

We will be taking a field trip to the Detroit Science Center on February 7th! Permission slips were sent home today and a copy of one is attached at the end of this post. The money and permission slip are due by December 20th, we have to pay for the field trip ahead of time.

We will need chaperones, if you wish to go, there are a few things you need to know: 1. Background Checks are required, please check with the office if you have one already, they do expire. 2. The cost is $12 per chaperone. 3. Chaperones must drive separately, there is not room on the bus.

Students who did not yet return DTE forms will bring home a new one today. Please complete and return by Monday, Nov. 26th. Thanks!

There will be a fundraiser on Thursday January 2 at Detroit Kid City. Open play is from 9am to 3pm. We will get 50% of the admission costs donated back to us – that’s $5 for every paying child! It’s an easy and fun fundraiser.
