Unit 7 Math Study Guide and Social Studies Study Guide

Today your child is bringing home the Math Ch. 7 study guide.  Please have your child complete it and go over the correct answers with your child.  The test will be on Friday, March 31.  The review will allow you to see what extra practice is needed.  Please return the review signed on Friday as that let’s me know that is was taken home and completed.

Last week your child brought home the social studies study guide.  Please review it for the test this Wednesday.  There are many vocabulary terms and short answer practice to complete and review.  In addition to the multiple choice, there are constructed responses where your child will be expected to write about the human, natural, or capital resources, etc.

Finally, please encourage your child to work on memorizing his basic facts.  There are basic fact games on the Everyday website that are helpful.

Thanks.

Landform Study Guide to study for Friday test

Today your child is bringing home a study guide of the Earth Features that we have been studying. Please help your child review the definitions of each for the test on Friday.

Also today a note is being sent home about the Spring Music Concert on April 10 at 6:20.

Finally, thanks for all your support for the Science Boot Camp!  The display boards look great!  The boys and girls did a great job.  I hope many of you will be able to attend the Science Boot Camp.

Science Fair Boot Camp Materials coming home today!

Your child is bringing home today the Science Fair Boot Camp materials that include a packet of directions, examples, and a data sheet.  Also in the bag are the test tubes, nails, and a plastic cup.  All the directions and procedures have been discussed with your child. We discussed other possible clear liquids, and we discussed words that may be used on the data sheets. We talked about ideas for the question and how to write the hypothesis. Be sure to have your child determine the question and the hypothesis before gathering data.  Remind your child to complete the data sheets in pencil first before adding color when needed.  Your child will make 4 observations.   The data needs to be edited for correct spelling, etc. as it will be displayed.  Remember that the lids may not be removed once the liquids have been added. There are no extra materials, so  remind your child to be careful with them.  The display boards will be sent home next week. Thanks to all who have turned in the science fair donation.  Please send in your donation when possible if you haven’t yet.  Happy experimenting!

Animal Project and Math Test

The animal project is due tomorrow.    Your child’s animal needs to  include four 3D shapes and eight 2D shapes.  The types of shapes are listed on the letter and rubric  sent home discussing the project.  The 3D shapes are used for the body and the 2D shapes can be used for eyes, spots, etc…  Students also should be able to identify all the required shapes on their animal.

The Chapter 5 Math Test is being sent home today.  Please go over it with your child and sign and return it to school tomorrow.

Thanks.

Animal Project and Reading Logs

Hope you are having fun making the geometric animal from the 2D and 3D shapes.  Remember they are due after break.  Have your child refer to the rubric to be sure all the shapes needed are used on their animal.

Please encourage your child to read daily. A new reading log is coming home today.  Due to the winter break, it is for two weeks.  Use the back to write additional reading completed.

Happy Valentine’s Day!  Thanks for all the items sent in to make our party a success!  I appreciate your great support!

Other items suggested include plates, napkins, crackers, cheese, fruit,24  brown lunch bags to decorate.  You can send in Valentine stickers for our bags.  Let me know if you would like to send something in or you can sign up outside of our classroom.

Today your child is bringing home a class list to help in writing out Valentines.  Also your child is bringing home Week 19 spelling words.

Thanks to all of you that sent in salt and/or flour for our models of the Earth’s surface features. Our models included:  mountains, hill, plateau, valley, plain, lake , pond, ocean, river, and a stream.  If you want to make dough at home the recipe needs  3/4 cup flour and 1/4 cup of salt.  Add a few tablespoons of water.  Knead mixture until is is the consistency of bread dough.   Have fun!
