2nd marking 2015-16

This marking period the classes will work on basketball skills.  The object control test will be the hand dribble.  The fitness test for the 4th – 5th graders will be the 1-minute curl ups.  The locomotor skill being tested for kindergarten and 1st graders is the gallop; and the 2nd graders will do a vertical jump.  The concept being taught for sportsmanship is best effort for kindergarten through 3rd grades and responsibility for 4th and 5th grades.

The 5th grade safety and service squad members are being invited to a play night in the gym on Nov. 30th from 3:35 – 4:30.  The permission slips will go home Fri. 11/20.

1st marking 2015-16

Welcome back to our school and the routine of learning.  In physical education the students are practicing soccer and the 4th and 5th grades are preparing for running tests.  Those 4th grade students who can run the mile in 13 minutes or less, and the 5th grade students who can finish in 12 minutes or less, are being invited to run in the Cipriano Run at Ford Field on Sat. Oct. 17th starting at 9am.

3rd marking 2014-5

The classes are working on basketball during January & February up to midwinter break.  I will start lessons on volleyball the week of 2/23.  The assessments for the 3rd marking for 4th & 5th grades are underhand strike under the object control heading, 1-min. curl up test under the fitness component heading, and respect under the personal/social heading.  Kindergarten through 3rd grades are assessed on catch a fly ball for object control, slide for locomotor skill and cooperation for personal/social.  Please remember if you are wearing boot to school to bring your gym shoes in your backpack on your PE day.

2nd marking period 2014/15

The 2nd through 5th grade classrooms are finishing football practice the week of Nov. 2nd.  All classes will then remain indoors for the winter and this year they will practice tennis from 11/10 until 12/19. It is a short swing style of playing and the 4th and 5th grades will also be learning to play table tennis (ping pong).  In January, the classes will begin basketball and the object control assessment for the 2nd marking will be the hand dribble.  The fitness assessment will be the sit-n-reach test for flexibility.  The personal-social assessment is for responsibility.

4th marking period, 2014

All grade levels are working on jump rope and 2nd through 5th grades were given Jump Rope for Heart packages to participate in the donation collection for the American Heart Association.  The Jump Rope for Heart party for all the collectors is on Wed. 4/16 from 3:40-4:45 in the gymnasium.

All classes will begin T-ball and softball lessons on Apr.28th.  4th & 5th grade students who have their own baseball mit should bring them to school on their PE day.

Assessments for the 4th marking period are  jump rope under the fitness category for 3rd through 5th grades, skip under the locomotor category,  over head throw and batting under the object control category, and compassion and constructive competition under the personal/social category.

3rd marking period

All classes are finishing basketball the week of Feb.3rd and will begin volleyball lessons on Feb. 10th.

The 4th and 5th grade report cards will reflect assessment of the volleyball underhand strike (serve) under the heading of object control.  The fitness objective assessed will be a 1-minute curl-up test and the sportsmanship assessment will be on the demonstration of respect.

The kindergarten through 3rd grade classes are being assessed on catching a fly ball under the object control heading and the locomotor skill is slide.  The sportsmanship assessment will be on the demonstration of cooperation.

2nd marking period 2013-4

The 2nd marking has 3rd-5th grades finishing football, while the kindergarten through 2nd grades are playing games.  All classes will begin gymnastics lessons on Monday 11/18 and then in January, the classes begin basketball lessons.  The assessment under the report card heading object control will be the hand dribble.  The heading locomotor skill is an assessment of gallop and slide.  4th & 5th grade fitness assessment will be flexibility. The personal/social skill assessment is of responsibility for 4th-5th grades, and best effort for K-3rd grades.

Welcome to P.E.

William Ford school is growing and changing.  All classes will now have physical education for a 45 minute period.  The kindergarten, 4th & 5th grade classes will come twice a week and 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade classes come once a week.  I welcome Mr. Scott Hummell to William Ford on Fridays to team teach with me.  In order to cover all the classes, there will be 2 classes in the gym together on Fridays.

The report cards for the 1st marking period will reflect assessment of the soccer instep kick for all grades under the heading object control.  Kindergarten & 1st grades will be assessed on hop under the heading locomotor skill, but 2nd graders are assessed on gallop.  4th & 5th grades are assessed on running the track under the heading fitness skill.  The personal/social skill heading is an assessment of following directions for kindergarten, 1st, 2nd & 3rd grades, and self control for 4th & 5th grades.
