4th marking period, 2018-9

Our final report card assessments will be taken during the jump rope and softball/T-ball units.  The fitness tests for 2nd through 5th graders will be on jumping rope.  The 2nd grade students will jump in a long rope twirled by myself and another student to attempt 5 jumps consecutively.  The 3rd grade students will jump for 1-minute individually to attempt 45 jumps accumulative.  4th grade students attempt 120 jumps in 2-minutes and 5th grade students attempt 199 jumps in 3-minutes.  Kindergarten and 1st grade students will work on skipping for the locomotor skill and the object control will be the overhand throw.  The personal/social skill the lower elementary students are working on is compassion and constructive competition for the upper elementary students.

Jump Rope for Heart collection envelopes will be sent home starting the week of April 8th and they are due back to me by Wednesday, April 24th.  The after school event will be Thursday, April 25th from 3:35 – 4:45 in the gym, for those students who turned in a collection for the American Heart Association.

3rd report card marking 2018-9

Volleyball lessons are the focus now.  4th and 5th grade students will be tested on the underhand strike for the object control category.  They will perform the sit and reach test for the fitness category, which check for hip and low back flexibility.  Respect for self and others will be worked on for the personal and social behavior category.  The other grades, kindergarten through 3rd grades, will be tested on slide for the locomotor skill, catch a fly ball for the object control skill and cooperation for the personal and social behavior.

2nd marking 2018-9

Students are playing the final week of football and then physical education classes will begin the indoor sports through the winter and spring months.  Tennis lesson will begin the last week of November.  Skill assessment will be on the hand dribble in basketball.  The 4th and 5th grade fitness test will be on curl-ups.  The personal/social skill being practiced by lower elementary classes is best effort and upper elementary classes are practicing responsibility.

Make sure that students bring gym shoes on PE day when wearing boots to school during these winter months.

1st marking 2018-19

Welcome back to the new school year.  Students are working on soccer skills and exercising to improve their fitness.  4th and 5th grades are building up to be tested on a 13 minute and 15 minute jogging test.  They can qualify for the Cipriano Fun Run which will be Mon. Oct. 15th after school at the Ford Field Park.  Permission slips will be sent home and a $3 fee covers the cost of printing the runners bib.  All grades are tested for object control by performing the soccer instep kick.  The personal/social skill being taught for kindergarten through 3rd grades is follow directions, while the 4th and 5th grades are learning self-control.

4th card marking, 2017-18

This final card marking begins with the students learning and practicing jump rope skills.  Grades 3rd through 5th will take a timed jump rope test and the 2nd graders will also test, not timed, for how many jumps they can perform.  Our last sport for the year is T-ball and softball.  5th grade is tested on batting, while kindergarten through 4th grades are tested on overhand throw.  Kindergarten and 1st grades will also be tested on the locomotor skill of skip.  The personal/social skill that is being taught and practiced is compassion for kindergarten through 3rd grades, and constructive competition for 4th and 5th grades.

I will be sending home Jump Rope for Heart envelopes with the students in 2nd through 5th grades that request them so that they may begin collecting donations for the American Heart Association.  The new theme is the Scare Squad and there is a tatoo attached to each envelope that comes to life when scanned using the free mobile app. available in your app store or on the heart.org/jump website.  The Jump for Heart party will be held Thurs. 4/19 for students who turn a collection.

3rd marking 2017-18

All classes are finishing their basketball unit and will begin volleyball lessons the week of Feb.12th.  The 3rd marking report cards will assess catch a fly ball under the object control category;  slide will be the locomotor skill assessed; and the fitness test for 4th and 5th grade students will be 1-minute of curl ups.  The personal/social skill for grades kindergarten through 3rd is cooperation, and for 4th and 5th it is respect.

2nd marking 2017-18

This marking period the students will be practicing gymnastics lessons during the month of December and basketball during January and part of February.  They will be assessed for object control by performing a basketball dribble.  The fitness assessment for 4th & 5th grades will be on flexibility by performing the sit ‘n’ reach test.  The personal/social skill the lower elementary classes are working on is best effort and the upper elementary classes are working on responsibility.

First marking 2017-18

Welcome back to all students and wonderful to see the new students as well!  All classes are working on exercise and soccer skills.  The 4th and 5th grade students are also taking their fitness run tests.  Those students may choose to participate in the Annual Cipriano Meet being held at Ford Field Park on Mon. Oct. 23rd after school, beginning at 4:50.  The cost is $3.00 to pay for the timing bibs and permission slips will go home the end of September.  I will also be speaking to 4th  and 5th grade boys and girls who may like to participate in once a month after school sports night, and those students will receive permission slips.

4th report card marking 2016-17

All classes are working on jump rope during the month of April and will begin softball and T-ball lessons in May.  The 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes fitness assessment is a timed jump rope test.  The skill assessment is on catch a fly ball and batting.  The personal and social skill assessment is on constructive competition.  The kindergarten and 1st grade classes locomotor assessment is on skip and the personal and social skill assessment is on compassion.  The skill assessment is for the overhead throw.  The 2nd grade classes will also do a jump rope assessment, but it is not a timed test.

This Thurs. Apr. 20th is the Jump Rope for Heart Event from 3:35 to 4:45 for all students who have turned in a collection for the American Heart Association!  Lots of jumping going on here.
