Learning About Time

Learning About Time

We are going to continue learning about time! Review our song from yesterday about using “today,” “tomorrow,” and “yesterday.”

Using the weather words and your core vocabulary board, cut out and paste pictures of what the weather has been “today,” “yesterday,” and “tomorrow.” These worksheets are in the work packets you have received.

Create a visual picture schedule with your child using pictures from the weather practice worksheet.  On a piece of paper write “today,” “yesterday,” and “tomorrow.’  Find a picture that represents the weather for each day, and have your child assist you with cutting and pasting these pictures next to the appropriate word, referencing their core vocabulary board throughout. Have a great day friends!

It is important for your child to change position throughout the day to support physical development. Some positions to alternate between include sitting, sidelying, lying on his/her back (supine), lying on his/her stomach (prone). This document shows some supported sitting positions. Different supported sitting positions provide different opportunities for your child to work on core strength, balance, head control, etc. during play. Provide enough support to your child’s trunk and head so that they can comfortably and safely keep them upright. Click on the link below for further information as well as video examples modeling how to support head control, sitting, and balance.

With your child, read the short story about “School.” This story is also in your work packet.  If your child is able to, assist them with pointing to each word while you read.  If they are not able to point with assistance,  hold the paper so they are able to track the words you are reading and pointing to with their eyes.

After you read the paragraph, point to the picture of the bell to reinforce that the story said the “bell is ringing.”

Complete the comprehension questions by reading the question out loud, then pointing to all of the pictures and answer choices. Go back to each answer choice individually and use the core vocabulary board for your child to respond with “yes” or “no” by pointing or with eye gaze. If their response is incorrect, model using the correct core vocabulary word for each answer and reference where you found that answer in the paragraph above. Also, continue working on your daily core vocabulary activities for our word of the week “stop.” Listen to the song below while practicing.

For the month of May, we are going to practice telling time! We have another great opportunity to use our core vocabulary boards when discussing time. Using your core board, talk about what the day of the week is “today,” what day it was “yesterday,” and what day it will be “tomorrow.” Start practicing by following along with the song below! Have a great day friends!

Good morning friends! I hope everyone had a great weekend! By now you should have received your new work packet for the week. In this packet is a list of daily activities you can do to work on using your core vocabulary board. This week our focus is using the word “STOP.” I’ve attached your daily activities below and included a great video of Ms. Dawn using “STOP” on her core board! If you have any questions or need any support please reach out to me Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Happy Friday!

Good morning friends, happy Friday! Today continue working on using your core boards and practicing the word “go.” Take a look at your list of books, songs, and activities, and practice singing and reading using the word “go.” Two songs you could listen to practice are “The Wheels on the Bus” and “Let it Go.” You can also watch Ms. Dawn’s video and see her using the word “go.” I hope you all have a nice weekend and get outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather!

This homemade scented playdough recipe is great for sensory play. Encourage your child to participate in making the recipe to practice fine motor skills, daily living skills, and following directions. Click on the Google Doc link to view the recipe. All you need is flour, salt, water, oil, and a Kool Aid packet. If you don’t have a Kool Aid packet, you can use food coloring instead (the purpose of using Kool Aid is to add the fruity smell). The recipe includes picture instructions to help your child follow along. See the video below for playdough play ideas.

M&M Graphing

M&M Graphing

We are going to continue working on graphing for the remainder of April! Here is a fun graphing activity to do at home (this is included in your new work packets)! Using a package of M&M’s (or any candy or manipulative available) assist your child with grabbing a handful. Next, work on graphing the M&M’s together. While your graphing, be sure to count aloud how many you have of each! After you have graphed each color grab your
core vocabulary boards and discuss which columns have “more” and which have “less.” Take pictures while you’re working and text or email them to me so I can see all the great work you’re doing! Also, continue to work on your daily core vocabulary activities and your physical therapy tummy time work! I hope you have some time today to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather! I miss you all so much!
