Hi friends! Let’s continue practicing our math skills! Use the link below to access a video with your family to count and graph! Be sure to have your core vocabulary board available so at the end of the video you can use your board to discuss which pictures on the graph had “more” and which had “less.” When you are all done practicing, your family can ask you if you enjoyed the graphing activity and you can use your core board to tell them “yes” you enjoyed it, or “no” you did not. Have fun practicing friends!

I CAN SAVE THE EARTH!
Last week we listened to a song about ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Today, we are going to listen to a story about Max, and how he learns how important it is to take care of the earth! Listen to the story below with your families, and afterwards talk about all the ways Max started to take care of the earth (by picking up garbage, composting, not wasting water or electricity, recycling, etc). With the help of an adult, you could also find pictures from magazines or online that represent all the different ways we can help take care of our planet and make the fun craft below. I miss you all and would love to see pictures of you working hard at home!

Dearborn Public Schools Continuity of Learning Plan
Dearborn Public Schools on April 16 received approval from Wayne County RESA to implement its Continuity of Learning Plan. The plan spells out how the District will continue to educate students during the state-ordered closure of school buildings to slow the spread of COVID-19.
To continue educating, Dearborn Schools will use a variety of tools, mostly online. The District will again distribute Chromebooks to families who need a computer to access the work. (Parents should contact your child’s principal to request a device.) If families truly cannot connect online, then the District will go so far as to print and mail or deliver paper assignments for students.
“I have witnessed outstanding examples of distance learning and teacher to student interactions over the past month as we work through this unprecedented crisis,” commented Superintendent Glenn Maleyko.
Students who truly cannot do the work will not be penalized. This would apply, for example, if the child or a parent is seriously ill. However, students who just chose not to do the work can end up with no credit for the class. Any student who is behind academically can be recommended for summer school.
School will continue until June 11th

Continuity of Learning Plan from our Superintendent Dr. Maleyko
Greetings,
I want to provide an update as we have been working hard to develop the Continuity of Learning Plan that is required under the Governor’s order. We will soon submit the plan and will hope to have approval in the near future. Please understand that timelines are very tight so we did our best to acquire stakeholder feedback from teachers, administrators, staff, parents and the Board of Education. Our outstanding staff worked over spring break to ensure that we had a well thought out plan that will support our students.
This week teachers are officially participating in professional development via online methods which is in alignment with the Governor’s order. They are also checking in with students. Pending approval from the Intermediate School District (ISD) Wayne County RESA we would like to officially start implementation of our plan on Monday the 20th. Once the plan is approved we will send out public notices shortly thereafter. We will not make any statements on the specificity of the plan until it is approved. I hope that you are having a good week and please remember to Stay Safe and Stay Home to support our Health Care Professionals and First Responders.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Good morning friends! I miss seeing you all so much! If we were in school, we would be learning about Earth Day which will be here soon on April 22! We would talk about different ways we can reduce, reuse, and recycle. With your families, listen to the song below about how you can reduce, reuse, recycle, then complete the sorting recyclables worksheet together. Have your core vocabulary board available to respond to questions about each item by pointing to or looking at “yes” or “no”. Have a great day and stay safe and healthy!

Take a look at Mr. Borg’s blog for fun activities to do at home!
We Wear Masks – A Social Story About the Coronavirus
“We Wear Masks” is an animated social story that helps explain some of the issues we are facing right now including wearing a mask, school closure, and social distancing. While watching and listening to this story together, have your child’s core vocabulary board available to follow along and point each time they hear the word “I” or “go” throughout the story. After the story is complete review the placement of each word on their core vocabulary board and see if they are able to identify the word using their primary mode of communication (pointing, eye gaze, etc). Have a wonderful day friends!
Books, Songs, and Activities for Core Vocabulary
Below is a link to a great resource to help reinforce many of our core vocabulary words through a variety of books, songs, and activities. Many of these can be found on Youtube if you do not have a physical copy of the book.

Core Vocabulary Adapted Book
Hi everyone. Below is a link to a great adapted book that reinforces using the word “want.” If you have access to a printer this would be a great book to print and read with your child daily. Once they are familiar with the book, have them identify the word “want” on their core vocabulary board to complete the sentence. You could use velcro to attach the word in the sentence or cut and paste the word with your child to work on their fine motor skills. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, I am missing each of you so much!
