Week of May 16

Progress Reports are being sent home this week for all students based on your grade last Thursday. Please be sure to check Mistar on a weekly basis to monitor your grades as the school year winds down.

 

 

This week you will take your final NWEA test as they are not given in high school. From it you will see where you stand as a reader. Wednesday we will read an article ” The Impact of Gangs on Teeens”. Thursday we will read a memoir called ” I Escaped a Violent Gang”. On Friday we will read an article on NEWELA through googleclassroom about a teen trying to escape gangs in his country by seeking asylum in the United States and hopefully hold a Socratic Circle discussion.

 

Homework: As always you should be reading your SSR+ book. Remember exit tickets are due Tuesday, May 28.

Week of May 6

This week you will need to complete The Outsiders book before class Wednesday, May 8th. On Wednesday you will have class time to work on your Outsiders flip-book (Due Friday, May 10). Thursday we will review The Outsiders to prepare for Friday’s final test on The Outsiders. During the week at home  you will need to create your visual representation of “Nothing Gold Can Stay” ( Due Friday, May 10). Remember the left side of the page should be the golden side and the right should be how the gold doesn’t stay. It should be drawn by you and colored.

 

Be sure to read your SSR book at home as your 2nd exit ticket is due May 28th.

Read Theory is still extra credit through Sunday night. We will be taking NWEA Reading on Monday next week.

Week of April 29

This week we will be reading Chapter 5-8 of The Outsiders.  You should be working on the following sections of the  75 point test packet, Guided Reading, Vocabulary, Literary Terms and Plot. If you chose to listen to the chapters please bring headphones to class and use the link below. Because we are reading at our own individual pace it is important to be respectful and not give away the plot to others who may not have read that part yet. If you disclose you will lose points off your packet. On Friday we will discuss Chapters 5-8 and analyze Robert Frost’s poem ” Nothing Gold Can Stay”.

Homework: The 1960’s assignment on Google Classroom due Friday May 3rd.

Week of April 22

This week we will begin reading the novel, The Outsiders.  Students will be creating a flipbook to accompany the reading. This book will be worth 70 summative points at the conclusion of the reading of The OutsidersDo not lose your flip book it is the only copy you have.  Books are available to check out if needed.

Monday: Read Introduction to The Outsiders-Chapter 1

Tuesday: Read Chapter 2

Wednesday (late start): Conflicts- Chapter 3 , Due Letter and Butterfly See google classroom

On Monday, April 15th, we have a Holocaust Survivor, Irene Miller, coming to speak to our students during 4th hour. Students can come prepared with a question to ask after her presentation. Copies of her book, Into No Man’s Land: A Historical Memoir will be available to purchase for $15. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend  though seating is limited due to capacity. Children may not attend.

Week of March 18

This week we will complete Act II of Anne Frank. As we read you will continue to add to your summary and character charts. If you don’t have time in class to complete, you must finish at home. These charts will help you for the test on Anne Frank Act II on Friday.

Homework:

*Read your SSR book. Any exit tickets for books completed in CM 3 are due by this Friday. Remember you are expected to complete 2 books a CM.

  • Spend 1 hour on PSAT practice.  See your planner for your practice schedule. Also include the recommendations as part of your practice time

 

Extra Credit: This is the final week for extra credit on Read Theory for CM 3. Remember if your grade level has increased this CM you will receive bonus summative extra credit.

Monday PSAT Tips and Practice

Tuesday- Friday Anne Frank Act 2 Scene 1-2 and talk back about Field Trip to see live performance

Your Act 2 Scene 1-2 Summary and Acts of Kindness as well as your character charts should be filled in as we read. If class time doesn’t allow you to finish , you must finish at home.

Homework:

*Read your good fit book. The second book must be complete by Friday March 22nd. The card marking is two weeks away from ending.

  • PSAT Practice- follow your  Reading and Writing plan to complete a minimum of 1 hour a week and the number of questions you selected using Khan. Remember you must use the PSAT link on our google-classroom.
