Today we had a shortened class time due to an assembly about how students can be safe online that was presented by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. Students are bringing home an Online Safety Contract to be signed and returned.
In class we discussed two new expectations:
1. Students will need to find 5 new and interesting words a week to add to their vocabulary tracker. These words could come from their reading or from something they hear. If they are struggling to find words we have a classroom resource of SAT/ACT prep words suitable for 6th graders that they may use. We encourage them to use this resource rather then go through the dictionary.
Vocabulary Tracker is due on Fridays.
2. Students will need to complete a reading journal each week based on the expectation that their homework is to read their good- fit book for at least 20 minutes a night outside of class.
Reading Journal is due on Mondays.
Remember tomorrow is Election Day. There is NO SCHOOL.

Welcome Back
Today and Friday we will be identifying the genre of selected passages and finding evidence to support the identification. We will also be working on using sensory details to create a ” Come with me” Poem.
Homework: Read and if you need to work on the poem.
Today is the last day of the 1st marking. You had an opportunity to view your grade You had an opportunity in class to view your grade and discuss any issues. The grades showing on MI- Star are the ones for your report cards. In class we worked on finishing up our genre notes, learned how to turn a writing prompt question into a thesis, and turned in the literary devices found in our good-fit books.
Enjoy the fall break! Take the opportunity to read, pay attention to what you like about fall, and for some of you get organized or get your school supplies.

You finished Part 2 of the MEAP reading test. Then you began a discussion about what makes inventors unique. You were able to put on an inventor’s hat and design and invent anything you desired. Today students took Part 1 of the Language Arts MEAP.
In class, we worked on creating clock buddies and DAILY 5. Your are to focus on finding three examples of authors using literary devices in their writing by Friday.
