Welcome to those of you who found your way here already. Since you are probably wondering click the following link to get a head start on your school supplies.
I am excited to get to meet you next Tuesday.
Hope your summer is off to a great start.
In case you misplaced your summer reading list here it is: summerreadinglist
Since you are now moving to 7th grade use the 7th grade list.
Don’t forget to use www.mobymax.com for reading, writing, grammar, or vocabulary work.
Wow, time really does fly by! I want to encourage you to read and write over the summer. Explore what you are thinking by continuing to keep a journal and play with your thinking. Take two random words, an unusual picture, an event or experience you have and play with your writing and see where it takes you. Pick up a book and let your mind engage with the world the author is creating. Make those connections, predictions, questions, monitor, find new and interesting words and explore how authors write. You are now experts at this and it will happen natural. I bet you will be noticing figurative language in the songs you listen to. Discuss with someone what you find or feel free to email me with what you are discovering in reading and writing ( I will look periodically).
Enjoy your summer and be safe!
Ms. Lessel

After an eternity of working with figurative language it should be down pat. It should be a piece of cake. Your brain should be a live wire making connections without even thinking.
In Vocabulary we will begin working on Lesson 8. The timing for finishing is to be determined since next week there is a lot of testing going on. Our dates for NWEA are next Wednesday and Thursday. Your hard work should pay off.

Welcome Back!
This week we will be working on reviewing the different types of figurative language. Your presentations will start on figurative language you have found in the real- world ( music lyrics, from your reading, etc). You will need to have the stanza or passage written up along with the title and artist or author. Then you will need to highlight the figurative language, identify what it is, and explain what it means. Remember whatever you chose should be suitable for school and must be shown to me the day before ( make sure it is presentable).
We will begin Lesson 7 in Vocab.
A slight change is being made in the Reading Flags and Prove it Letter. The flags will now be due on Friday and you will be writing your Prove it Letter on Fridays as well.
