Week of Jan. 30th

Welcome to the start of the 2nd semester!

This week in class we will be taking the NWEA Test for Reading and Language. You will be able to find out how what you have been putting in pays off for you.

 

Homework:

Read your book for at least an hour and a half.

Take a bookie selfie with the book you are currently reading ( printed picture due Monday, Feb. 6th).

Read the articles on google classroom Op/Ed assignment and complete the graphic organizer provided in class or use the one on google classroom. The graphic organizer is due on Monday (do not submit on googleclassroom.

Week of Jan. 24th

Here is the run-down for the final week of Card Marking 3.

Monday: Write Reflection letter. Review for Anne Frank Test

Tuesday:  Literary Terms Booklet Part II is due/ Test Act II Diary of Anne Frank

Wednesday: Group Discussion Anne Frank. Begin Op/Ed research ( assignment on google classroom. ) Articles and note-taking form due Monday.

Thursday:: Movie Devil’s Arithmetic

Friday- 1/2 day- Spirit Day Competion

 

As always be sure to read your novel and earn at least 100 points on Read Theory.

NWEA testing is next week. Will you see the results you wanted?

Week of Jan 16th

This week we will be finishing the Diary of Anne Frank in class.

Homework:

Part II of the Literary Term Booklet by using the Diary of Anne Frank to                   provide examples. This assignments counts as a summative test grade                       and is due Tuesday, Jan. 24th ( the corrections and late literary terms will                 be scored then as well).

  • Read your novel-  CM3 Exit Tickets Due Friday, Jan. 24th  ( Reminder  you are expected to complete at least 1 book a card marking from your reading in class and at home; exit tickets are completed in class.) Those who have completed one already have their score recorded.
  • Readtheory.org ( you should be earning at least 100 points a week and practice for NWEA in a few weeks, your goal is to increase your reading level)

Week of Jan. 9th

Welcome Back! We are now 1/2 way through the third marking!!

We will be continuing to read the play , “The Diary of Anne Frank ” in class.

At home students need to be reading their SSR book and completing 1 hour of readtheory each week. Please take a look at your child’s progress on it by viewing the graph feature. Students will soon by taking the NWEA ( end of January/beginning of February).

 

Week of Dec. 19

This week we will be delving deeper into Act 1 and looking at how the characters interact with each other and how conflicts are developing. The goal is to have Scene 3 done before the break with a pop quiz sometime during the week.  Friday marks the 1/2 way point of the marking period. Be sure to take a look at the grades. Anyone missing their Literary Term booklet must complete it over the break for partial credit as Part 2 will be assigned sometime after break ( note Part 2 is a summative grade).

 

Over the break I encourage you to spend sometime reading and expect that many of you will complete a book or 2 over the break.

For those looking for bonus points ( extra credit) I encourage you to work on readtheory.org ( formative bonus points) or go to googleclassroom and conduct research on a question about the holocaust we have yet to answer (summative bonus  points)

Week of Dec. 12

This week we will begin doing a reader’s theater of the play version of Diary of Anne Frank found in our textbook.  Each day certain students will perform their assigned parts ( assigned day before) and the rest will act as the audience. It is important that you practice your part the night before as this will give you essential practice in oral reading fluency,using your voice to depict a character, and public speaking. It will also enhance comprehension of what you are reading. This week we will focus on Act 1 Scene 1 & 2

Week of Dec. 5th

This week is the start of the 3rd marking. Goals have been set based on what was observed about ourselves and where we want to head as we prepare for the end of the 1st semester.

This week we will be wrapping up our research of  The Holocaust. Students have been graded on what they have accomplished so far ( see Mi-Star- any missing work needs turned in by Friday). Their final piece is to research one question they still have (wondering) and post their question and answer on google classroom ( assignment is explained there) It is due Thursday, Oct 8th. After that they must post 2 comments (what were they thinking) to 2 different classmates research by Monday, Dec. 11th.

Homework is to read their novel and complete at least one hour on readtheory.org. The goal is for them to grow as readers. Be sure to check out their progress as well when they are on it. I am anxious to see who next week’s top scorers are.

Week of November 28th

Today students created accounts for themselves at readtheory.org.. They have their unique user name and their password is Eagles 16 This site will give students reading at their level and adapts with them to suit their needs. Students are expected to practice for at least an hour a week ( checking in each Monday) and will earn points for their performance. Students can also earn bonus points when their reading level goes up. They and you will also be able to see their progress by clicking on the bar graph icon. While an hour is the requirement remember more practice will lead to more growth.

This week we will be researching the holocaust in order to gather background information before we read the play ” Diary of Anne Frank”.  Students will be working in research teams and become their team’s expert in areas of their choosing. They will be graded on what they individually contribute to the group. Research will happen at home as well as school.

Friday marks the last day of the 2nd marking. Be sure you have finshed 1 book and written an exit ticket by wednesday. On Thursday you will write your literary reflection letter.
