Week of May 22

This week we will be reading Chapter 5- 8 of The Outsiders. In these chapters we will be analyzing and discussing actions having consequences, how events can change attitudes, and is there a way out ( solution to the crisis). If you are absent be sure to complete the reading at home. A link is provided to the full text on this blog.

Read– your good-fit book. You should be at least 1/2 way through the book.

No School May 26th- May 29th Please be sure to return to school prepared to learn and with supplies to do so. This means paper, pencils or pens, and your book to read. Fidget spinners and no supplies aren’t helping you be successful.

 

Week of May 15

This week we will be looking at how the author uses conflicts and symbolism in Chapter 3-5 in The Outsiders. On Friday we will look at the culture of the 1960’s in order to prepare for our upcoming dress like a Soc or Grease Day (Friday, June 2nd). Be creative in using what you have to create your look.

Week of May 1st

This week wraps up the 5th card marking. We will be wrapping up our ” Difference- Maker” unit by writing a claim whether Mrs. Gruwell is a difference maker and explaining why (CER )and writing a reflection on our biggest accomplishment in reading this year. The rest of the week ( Tuesday-Friday) will conclude with our final NWEA Reading and Language Test. Remember you are looking for at least 1 year’s growth or to be reading at or above a 227 and language is at or above a 217. Continue to show them we are a School of Champions.

Note: Next week we will begin reading The Outsiders by SE Hinton. If you would like to pick up your own copy please do so otherwise we have a classroom set to use.

Week of April 24th

This week we will be examining the film ” Freedom Writer’s” to gather evidence to support a claim of whether or not Mrs. G is a difference maker. The film is based on the teacher and classmates of “Anna” from the reading we did in class ” I Escaped a Violent Gang” Be sure you have your permission slip turned in, to watch the movie in class. Otherwise there is an alternate reading about the topic to write your response from.

Work for Week of April 17th

Much of our week will be spent completing the M-Step Performance Task which is basically writing based on reading.This test will show you where you are it in mastering the standards for 8th graders. Remember to do your best and keep Bryant a School of Champions!   On the days we are not testing, we will be working on a memoir called, ” I Escaped a Violent Gang”.

This week during class we will be taking Part 1 of the ELA M-Step.

It is important that you get a good night sleep and eat a good breakfast or lunch

(depending on when you come to class0.
