Week of Feb. 5

This week we will analyze the text ” Harriet Tubman Conductor of the Underground Railroad” to see how author’s develop characters/people. We will also continue to compare different people/characters view the Underground Railroad. Below is the link for materials in case you need to finish at home.

Homework: READ. You will need to have 1 book finished by Feb. 2/28 and your 2nd book finished by March 23. To accomplish this task you must read at home as well as at school.

Homework: I can’t say it enough READ ( 20 minutes a night for 5 nights or 100 minutes minimum)

Parents and Guardians please look at your child’s grades and  results on NWEA reading in language. They can be found on page 8 of their planners and in their online district my learning plan.  Guide them in reflecting on their progress and discuss with them their next goals. Together we can help them achieve!

 

 

Week of Jan. 23rd

The last week of marking period brings us our Mid-winter Assessments.

This week we will be taking NWEA Reading and Language to see where we are at.

Parents please ask your child to show you their results  in their planner  on their ” My Learning Plan” found on e portofilos through Dearborn Schools or in their planner on page 8 ( has the chart showing grade level equivalent). Students were expected to write it in both places.

 

Homework: Read and take your Book Selfie ( Due Monday)

Week of Jan. 17th

We will be continuing to review and wrap up the 1st semester.

Students, you will need to to have your 3rd book for the year completed by Friday and an exit ticket turned in. Remember this is a formative assignment and on Friday, you will be examining how your reading went to formulate to write a reflection letter. For some of you your reflection will show you what you need to work on , while for others it will show you what you did well at. From what you learned from your honest reflections you will be able to set goals for yourself for next marking period. This is an important part of your learning process.

Please note Extra Credit is available through Read Theory up until Jan. 22nd. Hopefully your practice has increased your reading level. We will be taking NWEA next week to see where you are currently at.

Week of Jan. 8th

Happy New Year!

 

This week we will be reviewing. First we will look at parts of an argument and persuasive techniques to prepare for the Unit Test on Wednesday. To prepare you will select 1 of the assigned articles on NEWSELA to read, complete the graphic organizer handed out in class, and take the quiz provided on NEWSELA.

We will finish the week looking back at narrative elements ( specifically theme, symbolism and plot).  You will be reading 2 stories “Abuela Invents the Zero” ( p. 465-467) and “Raymond’s Run” (p.38-46) to analyze narrative elements.

As always be sure you are reading at home ( you must finish your 2nd book by next Friday. Also January Extra Credit for Readtheory is due Jn 22nd.

Week of Dec. 18

This week you will be taking your research and your ideas to write your argumentative essay. In order to finish you will need to work on this in and outside of class. All work and directions are on google-classroom.

 

Due Monday: All Research ( Choosing a Topic, Working Thesis, Research Sources and Notes, and Counter-Argument and Rebuttal)

Due Wednesday:  Entire Argumentative Draft

Due Friday: Final Copy Argumentative Essay

Due dates mean done before that class day.

Extra Credit Read Theory Due Dec 31st.

 

Be sure to get started on your 2nd book for this card marking in order to be done by  Jan. 19th.

 

Week of Dec. 11

This week you will be researching on an argumentative issue that you chose last week. Assignments will be posted on google classroom as well as resources and directions. Depending on how you use your class time some of your work may need to be done at home. For example by class on Tuesday everyone should be ready to go to Step 3 Research: Sources and Notes. So some of you may need to complete Step1; Choosing a Topic and or Step 2: Working Thesis before class.

 

Homework: Read, Research if needed.
