Week of March 2nd

This week kicks off MArch is reading month. Though, in here, every month is reading month. You are expected to read 50+ pages a week between class and home. Why, you ask? The reason is pretty simple it is the easiest way to help you grow as a learner. Don’t believe me then see the chart below.

Image result for the importance of reading

Many of you are struggling with completing your homework which is simply reading at home. Some of you have even went so far as to turn in exit tickets for SSR+ books you haven’t finished reading in an attempt to get a score/grade. This doesn’t work. In order to become a better reader and a better student the answer is simple- just READ!

Parents it is important that your child reads daily. If you see they have a zero for an exit ticket for SSR+ it means they haven’t read. Please encourage them to read and finish their book. Refrain from saying get your SSR exit ticket done- it defeats the purpose making it more about the grade then the reading.

This week we will begin a unit exploring this essential question:

In what different ways can people be intelligent?

Students will be reading Flowers for ALgernon as we explore this question. They will be given a calendar and a packet to work through. I’m attaching a calendar for you as well.
