Spring Break Motivation!!

So as many of you know next week we will officially be on spring break. That said the forecast is looking good so we will be able to get outdoors and get moving. I personally ride my bike pretty much everyday and have set a goal for next week to ride a total of 50 miles in those next 7 days. Some days I may ride 5 miles other days I might ride 10-15 no specific division for each day but in a week just a total of 50. What I would like you guys to do is think up a goal for yourselves to walk, run or ride and be consistent next week to achieve that goal. I use the under armour app on my phone to track my mileage but you don’t necessarily need an app to keep track. Travel around the block in your neighborhood 4 times and that’s 1 mile. Travel around the track 6 times at Becker and that’s a mile. It doesn’t have to be exact but giving yourself a target goal to shoot for will help you stay motivated and active. I will post my progress on this blog mid-week and let you all know how it’s going. I hope you will join me!! If so comment or e-mail me your distance goal and we’ll help each other stay motivated and stay active!!

Enjoy the Break, stay active in or outdoors but most importantly stay healthy and safe!!

Fitness Testing Standards

This document contains the fitness testing standards you were being tested on in Phys Ed class during the school year. The documents is broken down by grade levels and gender. There are a few differences in scores between boys vs girls and in each grade level the number of repetitions for each exercise increase. The document shows sit and reach and chin ups which we cannot do without the equipment but you can test yourselves on the jump rope, sit ups and push ups as well as the running requirements. Test yourselves first then practice each day and the following week test yourself again to see if you improved! Good luck and stay active! Any questions just e-mail me or comment in the blog and I will respond. My e-mail is : lesniaj@dearbornschools.org

A new app for Basketball Skills Practice

If you’re anything like me basketball is a big part of your life and currently with this virus situation there is no basketball taking place. I miss the game very much, I miss playing it with the kids in gym class, I miss watching it on tv each night. Fortunately, I found a new basketball app for your phone or tablet or i-pad that has a ton of skills drills and tips to help keep your game sharp and skills in tact while being away during this closure. The app is called Homecourt. It is a free app you can download to any electronic device that will teach you some skills drills and give you some things to practice in your backyard or driveway. It is a free app and it’s easy to use. It has demonstration and instructional videos on it and is very kids/user friendly. The weather is getting warmer so download this app and get out and play.

A Must Try Website for Physical Activity at Home!

Below is another website that has a ton of activities for kids to keep them active while being out of school. Remember some grade levels had P.E. Class twice a week for 45 minutes each session in which we moved and exercised plus recess in which students played various games and sports so while we are out of school it is still important to keep active and stay healthy. Now more than ever we need to move at home to make up for that lost activity time. Hopefully this site will have exercises you would like to try and will accelerate those heart rates!

1.) Glenn Higgins Fitness – no there’s no relation to Mr. Higgins our Principal at William Ford but this guys channel on YouTube has over 40 workouts and dance videos you can do off a computer or phone just by following along. Many are themed such as Fortnite and Batman and many more so just pick a favorite and find some space in your home or back yard and follow along. The movements will give you something to do and help keep you strong!
