This week Box Tops are being doubled! That is $.20 for every Box Top entered into the app. Simply download the free app, sign up for Nowlin Elementary and scan your receipts. The Box Tops are automatically submitted. If the package has a paper Box Top, you can send that in as well and we will get $.30 for that single Box Tops. Today is Nowlin’s Open House. It begins at 6 and ends at 7:30. Please come to see the classroom, your students desk and belongings in the classroom. I also have to opportunities that you can view and sign up for 🙂

The PTA is having a Bake Sale tomorrow after school. So please stop by after picking up your child for some goodies!

As we continue to encourage healthy habits, we are increasing our corner coverage to encourage students to walk or bike to and from school. We are also actively trying to hire adult corner captains for before and after school.

Here are the list of corners that are currently covered to ensure your child’s safety:

1)  Penn, Academy, and Madison – In front of Nowlin

2)  Notre Dame, Grindley and Madison   – North of Nowlin

4) Syracuse and Penn – West side of Nowlin

5) Grindley and  Penn – One block east of Nowlin

Additionally, we will begin offering incentives for students to bike or walk to school. The items include the following American Made items: bike helmets, insulated water bottles, bike repair kits, bike lights and other such items.

Students take a Reading Log home everyday where they record what they read, how long they read for and they need a parent signature for each day.

I have noticed some students Reading Logs have been signed in advance, meaning, there are parent signatures indicating that their child did their reading homework before the day has even happened. Please do not do this. Students reading every night will help them now and in the future while learning in school.

Good evening families

Students write down the daily agenda every morning in their assignment books. The daily agenda is the days schedule. Students do this for two reasons. One reason is so that they know the schedule and can be aware of what is coming next. Another reason is so you can be seeing what they do throughout the school day. 

Students are also given 5-10 minutes at the end of everyday to write down their homework. Students are asked to write their homework on the lines underneath the daily agenda (schedule). I personally write the students homework on the board everyday. Students copy the words I’ve written on the board into their assignment books. 

Students are asked to get their assignment books signed everyday. There is a line for a parent Signature everyday in their assignment books. I will begin checking this line to ensure a Signature this week. If you are not able to sign the assignment book on any given day, please leave me a message on Class Dojo so that I am aware that your child has attempted to get the book signed.

Shop our in school fair on Monday September 9 – Thursday September 12. We will be open after school on Monday until 4 pm and from 12 – 4 p Tuesday – Thursday. We will also be open during Open House on Thursday September 12 from 6 – 7 pm. Cash, checks (made to Nowlin PTA) and credit cards are accepted, as well as the new e-Wallet option available through Scholastic. The e-Wallet option allows your student to shop with a spending limit. You need a valid credit or debit card to set up an e-Wallet account. Only the amount purchased will be charged to your card. If you choose to write a check, please make checks out to Nowlin PTA and be sure to include the 6% sales tax.

Hello families! Tomorrow, Wednesday August 28, is the PTA’s Ice Cream Social. It will be on the front lawn in front of the school and we will be serving free pizza and ice cream sundaes. I hope to see you there 😃
